Hi Spec rear calipers longer levers

Postby bobbrown » Sun 25.09.2011, 11:43

I'm starting this as a seperate topic to keep it tidy!
This is for those that have the Hi Spec rear calipers and want to fit the longer levers.
If you want to discuss the levers then use this topic but please not this one.

I have made up some longer levers and I am awaiting the test results from Ailwyn. SteveA and Monty, they should work better than the original one supplied by Hi Spec but the proof of the pudding..........

Assuming this design works then I need to know who wants them as there is a cost in this case £20.00 delivered.

You get two new longer levers, and two new longer brackets plus a a length of 5mm stud bar which will need to be cut to length if required.
The stud bar is to extend the link between the handbrake lever and the compensating link, in some cases it may not be required but is there just in case.

The new levers are in a similar style to the old ones all be it longer and the end where the cable fits is bent back to stop the cable comming out. Pic to follow.

Still a little more work to do to refine the fit but so far so good

There is now a hook arrangement on the lever which stops it falling off unless you leave too much slack, like over 8mm, as it is retained by the nipple which can not pass through a 3mm slot.
The one in the picture is Monty's and I did supply his with an angle on the bracket but I do not think that is required as there is enough room for it to be straight and make machining them easier.

Dear Bob,
My company purchased to you on 14th February 1 complete rear brake kit for a Lotus Elan M100. I sent to you many e-mails recently and received no reply at all. Could you please let me know the situation with our order. Are you able to supply us with this complete kit or not? This is now very urgent as our customer has been waiting for 8 months now. Thanks in advance for your prompt reply.
Best regards.

MAC BURNIE,

I have a feeling that some of this may have been lost in translation (French to English) and may well do the other way.
This was not the topic to post this in as this was just for those who had the Hi Spec rear calipers fitted and wanted to change the levers to longer ones.

That said what is done is done so in reply, you did not actually purchase anything as no payment has been made, just a purchase order which I said I could not do until the work by Hi Spec had been completed and proven to be OK and I was holding off until this final part of the job was concluded and tests completed.
I do not call 2 emails many, one which was only on Monday and have been waiting on other Elan owners to get back to me on the results of these levers, so was not prepared to reply to your email until I had the results.

Note: I am a private individual working from my home garage for the benefit of other Elan owners not as a company doing work for profit as you most probably do as Mac Burnie Classic Cars.

Hi Bob,

Has the design and testing of the longer levers been finalised yet? Do we have any collective results which suggest this is the way forward?

Mini! I assume original, that's easy, done just about every thing that could be done with a Mini even built one from the shell up.
