World Conker Championships, OCT 9th Northants

Once again, this year I shall be entering the sporting elite of the World Conker Championships!

A deadly serious competition which attracts highly skilled players from around the Globe to be crowned King or Queen Conker.

As last year, I shall be entering disguised as a Bee, the attention from the press and fans can be too much and so a disguise is invaluable. The majority of contenders also come as an alias, as do spectators and supporters, it seems to help in being served at the bar.

Should anyone wish to be at this major sporting show, you need not take a gamble application for tickets as with some more minor events. Right, missed out on this last year, and not going to miss it again this year. I'm not sure if I could get all the training in in time, what do you think Stef? If not, can you dress up in fancy dress even if you aren't competing?

There was mention of camping last year, but as it's near yours, it's perfect for a party weekend a la Chez Stef

As it's a Sunday event folks may wish to stay dry and drive, otherwise the Monday off option is welcome. Not sure what I'll do yet, I'm limited on holiday allowance but can cater either way.

Blag your way in Shaun and psyche yourself up for the event. If all else fails, go down in style and glory in a ridiculous costume!

I'd say around 60% of people attending last year were in some form of fancy dress. The super hero crew were quite entertaining!

Bringing this back to attention again as there is only one and a half weeks to go!

Have I been practicing? Err... no. But I have been getting myself into peak physical performance to handle the stresses demanded for such an important international sporting event. Sywell and Chappel Beer festivals helped with arm strength and control immensely.

I shall be contestant number 2380 with black vest (so not to interfere with my freshly padded bee costume too much).

Hope to see some fellow Elaners there for support! Or heckling...

'tis a bit worrying that they can cancel an 'In ternational' event with such short notice - pity those poor 'Conquerors' traveling from the US or Oz, d'you think their travel insurance will cover the cancellation?

It is traditionally a windy month. Last week's weather was calm & warm for October too!

There was going to be a CHILDREN'S conker tournament due to take place in Stansted on Sunday (October 2) has been called off amid health and safety fears.

So another situation where health and saftey taken too far!

You've got a good point there though.
But October is traditionally the windiest month of the year & this month so far has been less windy tha most Octobers. I know that because the felt roof on my 2nd shed has not blown off yet...& it does this every October

Last year's championship was brilliantly warm and sunny!

As far as I know this is the first time it has been cancelled and it couldn't of been an easy decision.

The location is an exposed field and I can understand their reasoning as I have struggled putting up a small tent in high winds, would hate to do a marquee!

Personally I am still moping as I've been looking forward to it for so long
