I think so, I'll get SWMBO to double check at the weekend.

An update as to where I am with this project.

I have been a bit behind with this project and progress has been slower than I had hoped, all sorts of reasons but should be able to move this forward over the next few weeks and hope to have the production under way shortly. A lot of the parts are cut and roughed out ready to weld in. Still waiting on the final prototype sheet work as they had to make some more modifications so third time lucky. Fortunatly they were only using mild steel for the prototype work and have yet to cut the chrome moly sheets. The sheet work is quite critical as I do not want to end up with £2k of scrap if it is wrong! Measure twice cut once spring to mind.

I'm pretty sure I now need removing from this list as Ive sourced some 'as new' and don't think this project will be ready in time for my MOT which is a guaranteed fail on my front bones

Bob

Would it be possible to have an update on any progress and the future plans for these?

I'm sure we all understand and appreciate that other projects, particularly sorting out Hi-Spec, has taken up a lot of your time and we are all grateful for the selfless time and commitment you put in.

Two Mot's ago I had one of my front lower wishbones plated up to get the car through and I am hoping against hope of not having to do the same for my next Mot (November).

Thank you

Bob

I have to say that I’m extremely disappointed that my polite request, posted above, asking for an update on these wishbones has not resulted in a response from you. I can’t help but notice there are quite a number of earlier posts, some of which were also politely asking for progress updates, which likewise have not resulted in any response!

Your very last post on this thread, dated 11.11.2010 (over 14 months ago now!), stated:
“An update as to where I am with this project.

I have been a bit behind with this project and progress has been slower than I had hoped, all sorts of reasons but should be able to move this forward over the next few weeks and hope to have the production under way shortly.”

As my previous post acknowledged, we are all aware of the subsequent problems you had with Hi-Spec and, with that in mind, holding you to your statement above would have been more than wholly unreasonable. However, when a “few weeks” extends to well over a year and combining that with the absence of any communications over that same period, you’ll forgive me if I’m becoming somewhat concerned. In the absence of any information whatsoever, it’s inevitable that speculation (and yes I have been speculating) will result in all sorts of imagined scenarios of what might possibly be going wrong, or has gone wrong, here.

My concern has been magnified by the great care with which you are still looking after all your other live projects. To be blunt, this Group Buy continues to be totally ignored whilst other previous projects of yours are (to your credit) given meticulous attention. One example; some two days after my post above requesting an update, a post was placed on your “longer handbrake levers for the Hi-Spec rear callipers” thread asking you for a similar update. Your response appeared in well under two hours, why still no response here? Your apparent lack of attention to this Group Buy seems so way out of character in comparison, is it any wonder I’ve become concerned? A further aspect is the number of new Group Buys/Projects you’ve taken on (and yes, I haven’t forgotten I bought off one of the smaller buys) throughout the period this Group Buy has been stalled. This has given me cause to think (speculation again!) that a lack of time does not seem to fully explain this situation.

Returning once again to speculation, I may be wrong (I really do hope I am!) but the only conclusion I'm able to come up with is that there is some major problem with this wishbone Group Buy. If there is a problem, (time??, financial or technical) I would urge you to post up on this thread what it is. There is more than enough goodwill towards you on this forum that “all and sundry”, including me if I was able to help, would be piling in to assist you in finding a solution. A total lack of information is by far the worst thing we can have because, as I’ve mentioned before, speculation is all we are left with.

Again, Bob, I would urge you to respond to this post. It may not seem it but this post is equally intended to be helpful. Ultimately though I, as well as the rest of the list for this Group Buy, at least deserve to be kept in the picture on a reasonably regular basis, just like your other Group Buys, even if that news turns out to be not the best.

Bob

Once again you have greatly disappointed me, in that you have disregarded and deliberately ignored my post above asking you to come onto your thread and explain to all of us what has happened to this Group Buy and how it might have gone wrong.

In the past, you have demonstrated that you are very capable of expressing extremely strong views about other members’ treatment of you when you believed they were treating you in, what you considered, a disrespectful manner or perceived they were wronging you. At the moment, I am holding back the temptation to do likewise with you; because, currently, I feel that I am being wronged by you and equally that you are treating me in a similarly disrespectful manner.

I think it must be true to say that you are in a place that you would rather not be at the moment. That can be changed if you would just consider sharing the problem with us. The saying “A problem shared is a problem halved” is very true and in this case there are many of us available to make the problem a fraction of what it is to you at the moment.

If you are still finding it impossible to come onto this thread and explain then, to ease things, I have the following suggestions that might just be better for you:

Despite the fact we don’t know each other personally, you are welcome to PM or e-mail me at any time. Both addresses are in the usual place.

If you’d prefer to speak to me on the telephone, PM/e-mail me and I’ll send you my phone number or you can send me yours.

Alternatively, contact an LEC member who you’ve met and know personally, even better if they’re also on this Group Buy list.

Finally, I am actually prepared to literally meet you half way. I can meet up with you any evening when we are both free, at a convenient venue mid-way between our home locations.
I hope you appreciate that I’m “busting a gut” here, to make it as easy as possible for you to explain whatever the problem is. However, my patience is starting to wear very, very thin and that’s hardly surprising after over a year of complete silence.

I hope you will think long and hard about all I’ve said so far and then decide to do the right thing.

Whilst I have sat back up until now in the hope that a project update would be imminent, I feel as though it is more than reasonable at this stage to request some answers. Guys, there are over 30 of us with an interest in this project, surely we can't just sit back and leave it all to Roly? I am aware others have posted and asked for updates in the past, but I now feel we all need to involve ourselves in bringing this project to a conclusion - whether it's financial, moral or practical support to Bob - there must be a way that we can make this happen.

Of course we can! - why stick your head above the parapet and risk being shot

On a serious note, I have sent an e-mail to Bob and hope for an update shortly.

Please don't let this matter go the way of others in the past and 'jump on the bandwagon' of demands. I accept that there are genuine concerns out there, but lets get some facts before I have to wave a big stick and start editing/removing posts

I've heard back from 'Busy Bob' and am satisfied that things are getting there!

I won't go into full details here at this stage, but as we all know, Bob has had a lot on the go at any one time, and the Hi-Spec brake issue (quite rightly IMHO) took precident over other things.

This project is very much 'getting there' but there is a huge time issue with the manufacture of so many identical parts - each to be individually machined.

The easy way would have been to farm them out to a third party, but that comes at a financial cost, which Bob has always sought to avoid. The reality is that if costs go up, then the end user has to pay either in pound notes. or a longer timescale.

Bob is one of the more helpful members on here, and has been a victim of his own generosity - often giving up time to assist others. There are only 30 hours in a day, so only so much can be achieved in spare time. (I know there are 30 hours in a day, 'cos thats how many they expect of me at work!)

Bob has stated that he will update this thread (and others) when it is appropriate - but for now, all we can do is wait and accept that things are moving along in the background.

I hope this goes some way to alleviate any issues that people may have with this project.
