Sorry for the slow progress.....

basically, now looking at the injection moulded part and no longer looking at vac forming this part.....

Just got to iron out a few problems with the company and I hope that we can organise a replacement.....

My appologies for the delay...... Just want to make certian that everything is confermed......

Wayne: Any news on this project? Any news, either good or not so good, will be helpful for those trying to decide how to proceed with sourcing replacements.

Thanks,

Hi John

My sincerest apologies for keeping you and everyone else waiting on this.
The project has been on hold for a few weeks as I have been waiting for news from Lotus on the possibility of them making another run of the part as this would be by far the cheapest option for everyone. Or if they had any objections to me duplicating them.
This was the reply that I received 2 days ago

" Sorry to say Lotus has no intention of resurrecting these parts. I believe the original tooling may well have gone to Kia when they were making their version of the car, and we are not going to retool"

I am now trying to find out the authenticity of the company that offered an affordable quote as it was a lot cheaper than any other quote I received. i.e. about $1,700 compared to other quotes that ranged from $4,000- $8,000.

I was going to ask a Chinese friend to give them a call and see can find out any more info. At the moment I do not have enough confidence in this company to place an order.

I am currently looking at a couple of other options. But it will probably be a week or 2 before I receive anything positive.

If you or anyone else has any ideas on how to get these parts made at an affordable cost. Please add to this thread.

As soon as I have any more info on any leads this way I will make it available.

Sorry this has dragged out so long. I agree we need to find a solution soon. ( I hate looking at my cracked escutcheons)!

Thank you very much Wayne for such a comprehensive and thoughtful update. It's much appreciated.

Even though not strictly in the Group Buy section, it does serve as a complete object lesson in how to run, as well as look after, threads such as these. :-)

Please don't blame Wayne too much for the delay - I've been looking into something for him and unfortunately it's slipped a long way down the priorities.

[EDIT] It looks like the information from Lotus is correct as the Kia door furniture seems to be identical!

Wayne: Just dropping by in a project & keeping us posted with the latest developments (or lack of) is very welcome. At least we can all see you've not just blackholed the whole thing & nobody needs to pick up the baton.

Kitty FIddler: You do plenty on here, most visibly when it comes to ES cables so I don't think you are going to be held to ransom for holding something up.
