Brittany break 2012 after Le Mans Classic (6th-8th July)

Having just returned from out wedding anniversary trip to Paris, this sounds like the bargain of the century. I'd love to do this trip sometime. I only wish I had more holidays or didn't have so far to drive to get to France.
Very envious of all who are going. Have a great time.

MOT - check - Just passed
Insurance - check - Yep covered in the EU
Breakdown Cover - check - AA just added Euro cover as apparently I'm now a Gold Member, I wonder if I can extend my free Green Flag cover instead
Ferries - check - booked thanks to Nick
Accommodation - check - Yep I'm on the list
Passport - check - Doesn't expire yet
Warning Triangle, Fluorescent Vest etc - check - Still got from last time
Travel Insurance - check - Free with Bank

Oil change - todo - must remember to take extra oil as I couldn't find any the correct grade last time
Map - todo - last time I didn't take a map or satnav, got off the ferry and promptly got lost. I ended up navigating by the sun in order to head South until I hit the one major road I remembered went to Ploermel . Ended up getting there after dark!!
Mobile - todo - I wonder if I can actually get my mobile to work this time?
GB sticker - todo - I'm still getting the glue off from the last one

See here - appaerntly there will be a period of 'giving advice' before they start to fine you, but i don't always believe that!

I seem to remember it's 2 kits at all times (so don't use one), and don't forget the yellow waistcoat inside the cockpit, plus the stuff dapinky says.
Even the car I hired didn't have this stuff, so I had to ask for it and it took ages for them to find.

Anyway, to get back to the point, there is so much conflicting and (un)helpful advice out there about what you need to have with you, but I think that as far as the 'single use' breathalyser's go, then having ONE in the car is the requirement......

.....however, should you use it to decide to drive home, then you can't drive because you don't have one ......

....this is why they say to have TWO of them.

Bear in mind that they can be purchased on the ferry (prices vary) and have to be suitable for French alcohol levels (which are lower than UK ones). ie a UK breathalyser wont help you in France as the limit here is 80 milligrames alcohol / 100ml blood, and in France it is set at 50.

Having scoured the internet (well, a quick search on Google) i was somewhat surprised to find that not only have they got the kits at Halfords, but their prices are actually cheaper than Amazon or Ebay - and not bad at all for a fiver for 2! see here

And yes, we all know about the stories where the Gendarmes 'escort' you to the cashpoint to get the fine money, but i can't really see that being a big issue in this respect.

travel insurance inc with bank acc
breakdown insurance £80!!! robbing gits!
just ordered triangle, bulb kit and breathalyser.

just found out my passport form wasnt accepted and now have to do it all again as the signature (GUK) is to long ago now to be accepted! ffs I thought it was easy to get a British passport or is that just for the people who dont live here?

According to Google maps it is 3hrs 08 mins (choosing the route i like, not the fastest - that would be 3hrs 03 mins!) from Roscoff to Le Plessix.

The ferry is due at Roscoff at 1500 (French Time), so we could arrive 1800 ish on Sunday 8th.

There again, if we stoped for a bite to eat, it may be a tad later.

Iain, if your M & D want to go out for the day, just let me know and we can arrive any sort of time after about 6ish.
