Caledonian M100 meeting - September, 2012

Postby M100_DMM » Tue 14.08.2012, 19:36

As per the title, a meeting is in the throes of being arranged for the north Britain branch of LEC. Mere trivia such as date and location are still to be settled, but the plan is to get together somewhere in Scotland in September. The usual, er, characters will probably be in attendance but persons of more sober disposition are also most welcome.

Further details will appear on this thread as they become available. Meantime, please PM me if interested.

Can everyone who has expressed an interest PM me with their answers to the following questions:

1. Are there are any weekends in September that are not suitable? For me, the 15th of September is out, as I'll be going to the airshow at Leuchars that day.

2. How far are you willing to travel?

3. Does anyone have any suggestions re. venue? Last year, a group of us met at East Fortune and the year before that there was a BBQ and overnight stay at Ballater. To get the ball rolling, the Scottish Speedfair and Classic Car Festival is on at Knockhill on 8th September - great fun if it's dry, quite the opposite if it pees down (as it often does at Knockhill).

Mark, not heard anything yet. I'm still thinking about Leuchars weather permitting and if nothing else arranged.

I bumped into Archie at the weekend and metioned the gathering to him. He is booked up until into October so a bbq at the lodge is out for September

Mark, the short answer is 'no'. It looks like 21/22 September is probably the best bet. We could leave it till October - it's not as if the weather can be much worse then than it has been this so-called summer.

Boness a good wee meet, and well worth a tenner in todays overpriced world. Hooked up with Rambo for a bit. Thinking of Leuchars now, not been to a big airshow since Prestwick in about 1977 when I was a wee laddie. Bet the ice creams cots more than a bob.

It looks like I'll have to skip Leuchars as well - a pity, as I was looking forward to it. I remember the Prestwick air shows well - I used to go to them as kid. I think 1977 (or was it 1978?) was the year that they had two very talented but slightly deranged Belgian pilots whose speciality was to fly headlong towards each other then break at what seemed to be the last possible second. Appropriately enough, they were called "The Slivers".

EDIT: a quick google has revealed that they split up in 1975. I must have saw them that year or the year before. Here's a link to a photo of them doing what they did best: clicky And, yes, they did get that close to each other..............
