Rear Hub conversion

Hi boys

Recently bought a red Calypso - 33 000Km/20 505 miles - and I´m having problem´s replacing the rear brakes (still stock ones).

Questions: do you recomend the rear hub conversion? What cost can i expect by joining the group?

The hub conversion works with the standard brake calipers with the addition of a pair of low cost disc (GM) which cost around £20.00 a pair in the UK.
They are also needed if you are considering changing you rear brakes as it makes it possible to then change the disc size etc which you can not do with the standard combined hub/disc.

That´s why I haven´t done the full brake conversion.

Bought instead the EBC Turbo Brake Front Discs, Greenstuff pads and now seriously considering the Rear Hub conversion.

Since the car failed the MOT test - low braking performance - need to change the rear brakes fast.

Will Bob start production and delivery of the goods before reaching the 25 orders?

Bought instead the EBC Turbo Brake Front Discs, Greenstuff pads and now seriously considering the Rear Hub conversion. ( did this when i got mine a few years ago and it did improve things albeit marginally, whereas Hi-spec or other upgrade really makes a difference)

Since the car failed the MOT test - low braking performance - need to change the rear brakes fast. this is more likely to be the sliders than hubs? although the disks can be troublesome.

Will Bob start production and delivery of the goods before reaching the 25 orders? unlikely as he has to order all the material to make them and its a hobby not a business to him

The hubs I get made as they require a level of precision that although I can achieve for the numbers involved would be time consuming plus there is a curved face which is far easier on a CNC lathe.
You have to bear in mind the hub must run true and the face the disc sits on must have the minimal run out other wise the run out on the disc will be magnified. FYI: the max run out is 0.004" ideally less than 1/10th of that.

Hence I get these CNC machined with tight tollerances where it matters and the cost is dependant on the numbers, more equals less and I try to keep a balance of cost against numbers. A pair is just not economic and it is not until the numbers are larger does the job as a whole become more viable.

As a side note the original discs can be machined either on the car or off the car but it depends on how much material is left.

It is our opinion that group buys organised by a single project leader should be restricted to one thread at a time and each project should be completely satisfied before another is started.
