I'm afraid it won't help Trevor

Thanks HJ2, will have to wait and see if anyone makes comments on the thread.

Because of the size of the Piper down pipe I wouldn't think a heat shield being as necessary as it would be for the OEM part,
as it is not as close to parts that the bulky OEM part was, and the ceramic coating should help.
The top sheild looks an easy one to modify.
No doubt I'll be checking this all out at close range in the next few days :-D

all sorted now - extra 11/2 labour to fix. Bad news is turbo still isnt registering any boost even though it is spinning up - wonder if this means the waste gate is stuck???

Is the down pipe a direct replacement that will conect to a standard exhaust ?
i.e is the exit of the down pipe the same orientation and length as the catalyst housing (the big cast lump we're trying to replace)
or is it only designed to fit the Piper system ? :poke:

Hello,

Our downpipe will replace the stock cat pipe, and will fit to either our exhaust system or the standard lotus system (and in theory a Peco or Quiksilver) This means that it can also be fitted at a later date and does not have to be fitted when the system is changed, and here is the pipe in question, posted here first, just for you guys :D

Now I've got the down pipe, I have been sizing things up,
Yes it does look as though it will go together with a standard lower down pipe, but this is only 2inch diameter
whereas your down pipe is 2.5 inch :?
Kind of gives me a dilemma :?
a .25 all round step of a dilemma

So for this down pipe to work as it should the exhaust should surely match the diameter or there will be a step ? :poke:

A sudden step from 2½" to 2" will create turbulence, which is what the downpipe was designed to minimise.

Hello Guys,

The downpipe step from 2.5" to less (2.25"/2.0") can cause a bit of restriction in the exhaust system, however, they were initially designed to fit the larger bore system, this is because it would of almost double the price for us to develop a downpipe with a different bore size, we feel there is still a gain to be had when fitting our downpipe to a smaller bore system therefore we stuck to this design. I find it highly unlikey to see someone remove the stock cat, fit our downpipe to the stock/our 2.25" system and see a loss in power.

We still feel the gains from the downpipe are good regardless of what bore size it gets fitted to. :-D
Kind Regards

If you remove the cat and replace it for this downpipe or a PCE + stock downpipe, than yes, it will be a performance upgrade, even with the step from 2" to 2.25".

I have a complete Piper system fitted now - downpipe into 2 1/4 system with Sports Cat. Once the lack of boost is fixed (not related to this) I will report back data.

:agree:

So whats the point if your going to put (as in my case) a 1/4 of an inch all round 90 degree wall in the way :smt102

The downpipe also removes the precat for those of us unfortunate enough to have one.

Not the same problem, the step will be at the other end of the pipe and it will not unsettle the 2 flows from the turbine housing which was what the piper eliminates. Just get a proper piper exhaust ;)

I would recommend getting the down pipe coated via Piper but insist on them coating the inside not the outside as coating the outside will have the opposite effect of protecting your Turbo.

I agree the Piper down pipe in comparison to the "lump" it replaces must do a better job,
because the "lump" has more steps than the Scalinatadella Trinità dei Monti

Turbo leak all sorted (pipe had come off intercooler) So I got to drive the car at the weekend down to Goodwood - about 120 miles non motorway. I have the non coated downpipe and 2 1/4 piper with Sport Cat plus mountain chip. I don't have much of a comparison but performace increase is massive and the sound is amazing A3 tunnel was an experience!! I am happy to drive somewhere within reason to get tests done so if anyone has access please let me know. Will be running an elan scan courtesy of RIP soon.

I haven't ported the wastegate and no Boost creep even on way home where we did driev on mororway

Cheers

No Boost creep?
Lucky you!

Wait for winter before you smoke the cigar...
As the air gets colder, it is getting denser and chances of experiencing boost creep increase.

You normally only get boost creep when your really revving through the gears :burnout:

I thought I'd cured mine but it's still there  , although it's now much harder to get it.

The only thing I need to do now is alter the short section of pipe from the Piper down pipe to the exhaust,
I will be adding a flexi to take some of the strain and vibration away from the Piper down pipe, it's probably
why my exhaust sheared in the first place  .
