New Clutch

Only have about 40k on the car, but mechanic says it could use a new clutch. Can someone please provide me some options (preferably in US) that do not require any special modifications (no extra labor costs). Don't need anything race-worthy as car is not driven but on the weekends when the weather is decent (here in Texas, that is not much). I will even settle for stock if someone can provide part #'s. Mechanic says I need full assembly....flywheel, pressure plate, bearings, etc...Car is '91 M100 Turbo.

NEW CLUTCH at 40K ?? very unusual I would certainly get a second opinion

I don't want to say stupid things, but your Mechanic did adjust the clutch pedal with the adjuster above the gearbox ... right?

He is saying clutch doesn't engage until you've let the pedal almost all of the way out. Are you suggesting there is something he should be able to adjust to rectify this situation (as opposed to brand new clutch)?

Well... I'd certainty try that first! I hope i just saved you a couple of dollars my friend!

There is an adjuster where the cable meets the lever of the gearbox. A child can adjust it, really!

You really can't use the mileage to assume a good or bad clutch. I was suprised to find out that my 20k mile NYM Elan had a clutch replaced before I bought it. Seems the car was bought for a college student who had never driven a stick. He slipped it to death in less than a week. As soon as it was fixed, he wrecked it so the car was taken by the insurance company. The replacement clutch was an original Lotus assembly and seems to work fine thus far.

Clutch Part nos from parts catalogue (in manuals section of this site!!! ):
Pressure plate:
A100Q6011F Turbo

Clutch Disc:
A100Q6003F Turbo

SJ Sportscars still sell them in UK (at huge prices) so would imagine they would also be available somewhere in US.

Good luck, but get that second opinion, especially as it can be adjusted.

Let your mechanic fiddle around with the thingey in the green circle (not perfectly round as i am drinking Grappa right now)
And yes, there are some parts missing Hopefully it will save you some pennies. If not: Follow the leads above to the correct parts and... keep us posted!
