Well?
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

I think people on this forum are only interested in a certain type of event. I have made several suggestions but there clearly was no interest, which is fair enough. I was going to mention the very wonderful Birkett 6 hours relay race at Silverstone last weekend, the PERFECT antidote to spec series (ie one make) racing, but didnt bother because there is little interest in motorsport here. (who can blame them, spec series and I include the Lotus versions, have killed spectator interest in club racing.)

I just sort of accept this as the reality. I was even wondering if there were any Elan owners with competition licences that might want to make up a team, however that really is a thread too far!!!!

Oopps how could I forget :-\ Your right Jim. I was meaning more involving other regions. Frankly the weather in this country is awful at the moment isn't very encouraging.

I was meaning LEC events but I guess this could be around a motor racing event to add interest. Let's do the Birkett next year then, sounds good.

Why is it that one make racing has been detrimental to motorsport?

Are you meaning getting an Elan M100 Team together?

Ah ok I misunderstood your original point. Sorry.

As for the Birkett if there were 5 Elan owners with racing licences and sufficient other owners with spanners to help with any problems then yes it would be possible. However I was being more than a little bit tongue in cheek! Anything goes at the Birkett (closed wheel wise) and since there are two competitions going on concurrently, ie a scratch and handicap race. It is a very popular event organised by the 750MC that attracts such diverse machinery from a team of Rovers to Saker sports prototypes (this year) encompassing historics and moderns. Is it do able? Well you would need five cars whose owners would be willing to race with all that entails, so probably not.

As for my opinion on spec series racing it simply is not as attractive to spectators as multi class racing. When I first started watching racing in the late sixties and seventies club events were very popular, now the only spectators are friends and families of the competitors. Just compare the variety of machinery in hillclimbing to that of circuit racing, add to that the impact of downforce on single seaters like F3 etc, boring processions. A whole field of one make just is not the same as a variety of makes in different classes where you have in effect as many races going on as there are classes.

Ian, I have an expited MSA race licence and a current Non-race one (rallying)..... I might be pursueded to make it current :D :burnout:

Not sure on the entry regs for the series you mention, what would need doing on the elan to allow it to compete? (presumably fuel cell, bars, seats and belts??)

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

The event has just happened so I cant currently find the regs on the 750MC website, but I would guess that you would be correct on all points. The regs would have to be as the rest of their classes so it would require quite a commitment!

Interestingly I p/ex'd a trackday car to buy my Elan purely as a street car because I was stopping circuit activities, however I have never actually raced. As I said my comment was somewhat meant as a tongue in cheek comment! If enough people were interested I would be in the pits but happy to get involved.

Don't forget the couple of Morgan teams at the Birkett (sorry, I admit to a slight bias on that :) ).
Unfortunately, this year's event clashed with the Bristol Pegasus Sprint at Castle Combe, which is where I was (supporting the Morgan entries - I've already apologised :D and also a few pals in the TVR classes - so my bias is not all one-make :-D ).

I could well be interested on the spannering side should a team get together for the likes of this event - but you'd better keep me on a short reign or I could be in one of the other 'garages'
