 Thank god you were not sat in the drivers seat when the Porsche hit poor Blipi !!
and pleased that you escaped unharmed from spinning off the road.

I know that you must feel gutted at the moment. I can only say that I am pleased that you are still here to tell us about it.
Looking at the pics. It could have been alot worse !!

Hope you manage to get everything sorted out soon. You have alot of friends on this forum and I'm sure that they will all do their best to help you out in any way they can.

As everyone else has said, take time get over the shock and then be careful negotiating with the insurance assessor .
Your reg number should be ok to keep on retention for awhile and if you have a mind to, enjoy visiting all your colleagues on here picking holes in their pride and joys looking for a new ride :D
Glad your ok!

blipi RIP, if you where in her you would have been !!!!!!!!!!!! that was a big impact, you would be looking like one of your zombie's

i dont like the look at what dave's saying about being off the road, the insurance company's will no doubt go down this route,

worst case your fully comp and have to claim off your own insurance, i'd check if you retain salvage rights straight away, some insurance company's will send you a cheque less the salvage value of car, some take the car and give you full payment, shame you cannot wield a spanner as i'd go to where the car's stored and take the bits most accessible

i'd also ask why the road was flooded, council not maintaining the surface water drains properly

Glad you are ok Stef, the car looks to me to be a Cat B (break only)

The insurance company will try every trick in the book to stop you from buying it but just keep on at them and they will give in.

We had a small accident in our Navara this year and they wrote it off as a cat c (no airbags still drove) copart tried to collect the vehicle before we even knew it had been wrote off. We bought it back and made a nice earner on it so it is worth while.

Keep smiling it could have been worse.

Stef,
Have a large whisky and then go out and buy a lottery ticket because, even if you might not feel like it now, you've had a lucky day dodging bullets.
Sorry to see Blipi, but glad it's not you in that condition.

If it is a write off, lets hope those Winkers at DVB dont get their hands on it.

Thanks everyone

Yes, no doubt she is a write off sadly :(

Thankfully Porsche Insurance have accepted liability and I will be gettin a courtesey car tomorrow morning - Note taken on advice to keep costs down! :-)

So it's now all about getting good pay-off value and assessing salvage value and involvement. There are a lot of things I would liketo retain off Blipi and would be of value to others and I do not wish for this to be lost to our community.

I will be getting another Elan, no question there.

PH has this example I'm especially interested in and it is quite local: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... rbo/712723

Appreciate all the offers here too and have scouted the cars for sale but head isn't quite in right mode yet.

Considering insurance will likely take ages to payout I may ahve to get an Elan prior to getting the cash. So hope to see if I can get a good guesstimate on likely payout. I'm pushing for and mentioned value between £8-9k which is what good Elans sell for and upwards. Of course that just starts my platform and will ahve to wait and see what initial stupid platform they wish to start from!

I am gutted for the Porsche. Was a beautiful rare car, also from the 90's, also in red and also treasured. He must be as mortified as me. Sad day for petrolheads :( o wrong how cards can be dealt eh. Quite a spectacle for rubberneckers though!

Am appreciating more how lucky I was and have calibrated to a few things in life. Got to make sure I keep positive and forward, who knows, something really good may result from all this! The heartbreak will take a long time to heal but Blipi lead a fab life. 10 years with me and 10200 enjoyable miles and adventures had!

Stef,
I'm considerably relieved that you are safe! :D
Most of the decent advice has already appeared above.
Obviously you need a replacement for the prangson which is such a sad sight.
Enjoy the anticipation and planning in which you can now indulge.
As has been noted, this is Winter so a good time to take the time you need to get the Mk2 Blippi.

I'll just mention that mine is presently subject to my resolution to sell but about which I have done next to nothing yet!
If you decide that you'd like to start from scratch with a stock low miler (21k miles), let me know.

I hope that you will not be plagued by post crash thoughts of what might have been. Be thankful for a close shave!

Whisky finally in hand.

Really need to get some kip but can't face it...

Tomorrow:
Rescue numberplate - presume this is a DVLA call and putting it onto retention no doubt with a tasty fee for them. WayneKerrs
Get courtesey car
Collect affects from Blipi (and cry some more seeing her)
Chase insurance for timescale and valuation ASAP!
Cry more and try to look ahead

Still seeing now how damn lucky I was overall. And additionally lucky to have such support from my LEC pals. Thanks so much :) x

Oh yeah, all true! 8) Average 10k miles per year! :-D And she still made me smile each time and have to stop and look back after parking. Everyday had a Blipi smile!

Ditto :agree: except what about that Esprit you drove recently :?: :?: :?: :D :D :D

Second thoughts stick with the Elan, :m100: you can take the roof off. There are several for sale within LEC right now so you should have plenty to chose from.
