Today, in the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving.

You have several things to be thankful for: That Blipi behaved herself and stayed parallel to the ground while visiting the hill and the Porche driver was far enough back that you didn't get to meet him in person.

Glad to know you are safe and unhurt (except for the pain of losing yor friend).

Cars can be replaced. Much harder to replace people.

Thanks again everyone.

Been over to see her today to get my stuff out. s**t, she's bad. Has twisted slightly so even px door won't open :( Front end looks relatively OK and boot opens. Also looks like she can roll on her wheels.

Been in tabs with Ins and DVLA to retain my reg plate and now have a boring repmobile Vauxhall Insignia to use, but at least I'm on the road and feel physically OK today.

Still ditsy, tired, upset, stressed and with too much going on but I'm ok! :D

Good God Stef, just spotted this. I know how attached you were to Blipi, well we all were, she's been part of this forum for as long as I can remember - RIP Blipi. Good luck in your search for Blipi 2!

Eta/ just flicked thru my LEC fotos and Blipi features in quite a few - I expect others could say the same.

:( :( :( Not much more to say.

The (very rare) Midnight blue S2 that Mr Pink mentions is definately the one to go for.

Oh my stars! I'm glad you are OK and able to write this. So sorry to see Blippi's sad state but as has been said elsewhere, there's only one Stef and many Elans still in the world.

Stef, everything has been said but it is good to hear that you have come out of this with a brave face and fit. Good luck with your search for
the replacement of 'blipi'. Having met you I know how you feel about her and we are all the same about our own special Elan's. xx

Hello again

So much thanks has to go out to everyone for their concern and support! :D x

Feeling a little better today, no physical hurt at all, just emotional and lack of sleep. The shock of the many alternative outcomes still humbles my gratitude to my luck!

Have processed my reg plate to go on retention - £105 rip-off but should be getting around £17 back on my tax disc! :-D

Picked up a boring repmobile Insignia yesterday morning, so easy to drive like most modern cars but dull and waaay to big for my liking! Claimed out my belongings yesterday, forgot camera but will get more snaps. She really is a state! That's when I oiked out the tax disc and glad I did!

So now it is just a waiting game and then most likely a battle on settlement payout and buying Blipi's carcass. Can't wait to get another Elan. If the process looks likely to be mega slow then I may make measures to buy before payout. Thanks to all the head's up on availability, some good cars out there!

Will keep you all posted :-)

Safe motoring please folks xxx

Stef, sorry to hear about your car but glad you had a lucky escape.
Hopefully things work out for you as they did for me when my red Se got written off.
Firstly from my experience it depends on what category write off it is. I don't think A&B can be bought back so you are hoping for cat C or D. I was charged 25% of my payout to buy mine back.
Spend time on websites printing off cars that are similar for sale to show what you would have to spend to replace her.
Luckily Sinclaires wanted to buy my old car and it was actually stored there while the claim went through. They paid me the same as I bought it back for but I was able to remove my new S2 wheels and tyres, radio and a couple of other bits.
My payout plus injury claim paid for my S2 which it seems Dico is selling for me lol

Dico it might be for sale if I ever pluck up the courage to buy a TVR Tamora which I keep my eye on daily.

what a shame, it's blatantly obvious from your comments the car was something more than a machine to you and therefore the loss is also so much more than an insurance technicality to replace it
I do hope you find the right replacement that gives you the same level of pride and personality of ownership.
good luck

Thanks again for all your kind words!

Obsessively thinking about everything, as I'm finding it hard not to, I'd like to ask advice on the wreck if I may?

Just a quick idea on useful and sellable parts that can be rescued from Blipi's carcass would be appreciated. Have drafted my ideas and can forward.

Rather than post to public view, I'm keen to email direct for opinions. There maybe lots of unwelcome eyes on here. So please PM or email me if you think you can help!

There isn't much left un-damaged and I'm also concerned on what I can do with the un-donorable parts if I take the wreck.

And spanner volunteers appreciated! :-D

Advice will help me assess and negotiate getting her back to help other Elans live longer. Rather be prepared before negotiation!

Cheers! :D

Seems the wreck will cost 12% of payout value.

Then there is transporting it (should still roll), spannering parts off (somethng I cannot do), declaring paperwork that the car will be disposed of (not sure on what and costs involved there) and getting rid of the un-useable remains.

More to follow as n when!
