Fully Agreed. That's what I am about to do. It's not working to good, it's working better than stock, just the wastegate flow can't keep up anymore. Spool up times should be considerately faster with the piper, so quicker use of boost. After a quicker spool up time, the usual balanced compressor state is reached, (depending on the used memcal) and there is no extra benefit over a stock configuration :-)

My 2 cents anyway....

I'm still waiting to see what happens with all this before I place an order.
I really need to learn to weld properly one day.

In the 900 miles I have driven this week, I have not had overboost. That includes some very spirited driving on some good back roads. On boost, this is a quick car.

Piper downpipe, Piper 2 1/4 inch exhaust, wastegate ported to 20 - 21mm, Bosch O2 sensor, Everest chip.

Maybe I am not driving her hard enough :D but before I ported the wastegate and fitted the chip, she would overboost very easily.

I really want to get this car on a rolling road, ideally with someone who knows about Lotus. It may just be that the CAS needs to be adjusted (as has been documented earlier in this thread by Rip) to bring out the best in the chip & the exhaust package.

So I take it NOBODY has successfully installed this down pipe without over boost

It looks like Cliff is having more luck with his set up than I am, :D

Cliff's set up: SE Turbo , Piper downpipe, Piper 2 1/4 inch exhaust, wastegate ported to 20 - 21mm, Bosch O2 sensor, Everest chip. 8)

Steve's set up: SE Turbo , Piper downpipe, Paul Matty 2 inch exhaust , wastegate ported to 20mm, Standard chip

So is having the Everest chip containing the over boost ?
I would have thought that the Piper 2 1/4 would flow better than the Matty 2 thus making over boost more likely :? I take it the Piper is a single box like the Matty?

I did go for another drive around the lane's today,I didn't cane it so much and kept away from nasty men in big 4X4's, didn't get over boost :? it was a warmer day 8)

I think that's one of the things the Everest does, why do you not have one fitted Steve?

Are you sure you don't have a sticky waste gate? Did you get the turbo rebuilt when it was ported?

I agree. It is working too well.

I don't think the pipe is working too well. Because the waste gate flow isn't separated from the turbine flow, we are getting a lot of high pressure turbulent air directly downstream from the wategate port. This is causing less air to flow through the waste gate (something porting the waste gate can't fix).

To make the piper downpipe work well it would need to be modified with a baffle to keep the waste gate and turbine flow separate for some distance, much like the OEM and Knox downpipes have.

What has that got to do with boost creep? all this talk about separate flows is just slagging off, so don't think I'm picking on you I'm not I'm picking on your argument and lack of.

It's totally unhelpful to just slag off this product with no intelligent contribution. This is exactly the reason I hardly bother with LEC too many people having a pissing contest and the decent people just can't be bothered to argue any more.

If you don't like it don't buy it and if you have nothing productive to say then say nothing.

Lets work this one out properly like the intelligent people you profess to be and raise the bar of this forum a bit.

Sounds very low tech. I would like to see how you used these to measure performance.

I would be interested to see your measurements & calculations used to draw this conclusion.

I think that's one of the things the Everest does, why do you not have one fitted Steve?

The Everest chip was on my "to do list", I might just move it to the top

Did you get the turbo rebuilt when it was ported?

I didn't , following previous guide lines on the forum it didn't need it.

Are you sure you don't have a sticky waste gate?

I can see where your coming from there, but it feels free enough, I was wondering about the preload on the actuator as mine is adjustable,
maybe it needs adjusting?

I've been out and about today and used the Elan for work :burnout:
and (although I've not pushed her really hard) she's been as good as gold 8)

What I need now is another cold day just to verify things.

Well drove mine over to Norfolk on Saturday morning (120 miles), air temperature around 5 degrees. I have the downpipe and 2 1/4 system with Sports cat as I have an S2 , mountain chip and recently ported wastegate (20mm) I had a mix drive of blasting and cruising and no sign of any problems and what I think is a very fast set up. So I guess I have a successful installation?? I cant tell you how good the car is compared to others but I'm long over due a meet with RIP so when I get car back from re-trim I shall sort that to see what he thinks as he has mile more experience than me. I have a K&N air filter waiting to drop in an I hope a new set of hoses (in orange :poke: ) waiting for her return...

:smt023 That's good we now have two positive results so far one SE and one S2

Any Elanscan runs to post and drool over? We won't be happy until we've seen some.

If you are testing for boost creep, you must keep your foot hard to the floor and let the revs build to maximum, so on the level it's very easy to back off as the rev counter rapidly spins towards maximum revs. The best place I found to do it (until the bloody roadworks) was the Northbound sliproad at Cribbs Causeway up to the M5. There is a very long steady incline which slows down the rate of rise of the revs and if the sliproad ahead is clear it is a lot safer to see what is going on before entering the motorway at speed<<<<< 70MPH.

PS ORANGE?!

I happen to love orange!

My car gives problems below 7 degrees celsius only
When on the motorway, cruising along at 100 kph and suddently give it WOT and keep it that way (in 4th) fuelcut comes in at about 6500 rpm.( just when you think you are king of the world.

This is after replacement of the downpipe...

I'm a mac user also so no scans but RIP did offer so soon maybe. I haven't tried testing for creep as it is unlikely i would hold a license for long if I held foot down to floor! My issue was on hard acceleration I got fuel cut off - not good when overtaking!
