Sorry - not been keeping up (again).
Has anyone already spoken to The Melbourne Arms, and if not do I need to, or is somewhere else already arranged?

Nice to have you back.
Out of curiosity, I just checked how long it had been since your previous post. You appear to have been gone for the whole of 2012 (from the public part of the forum anyway)

Thanks Iain.
Yes, the best part of half a dozen cars (and the minor issue of one son) jumped the queue in front of the Elan.
I've been rebuilding all sorts of cr@p, for myself AND the family!
However the good news is that there's only the task of disposing of one last donor vehicle before I can get stuck into getting the Elan roadworthy again. And with all the experience I've gained, it should be a doddle.
I started it up a couple of weeks ago. It fired on the first turn of the key, and ran happily for about an hour - probably just to make me feel even guiltier.
But it's a sorry sight - no clamshell, half covered in a tarpaulin, a flat tyre, siezed brakes, scabby lacquer everywhere, damp carpets, mouldy leather, and who knows what else?
In short, I may appear at a couple of events, but my Elan won't. At least not this year anyway, but hopefully next.
Can still help organise stuff if needs be though! :D

Neil,

Good to hear that you're still with us - it's a bit of a pain when life gets in the way of elans - but we've all (or most) been through it.

When i saw this post i was wondering why you wern't at the top, as the organiser

(Well, as Geoff started the list, it should be down to him - so that probably means that now't has been done, so I (for one) would appreciate your assistance in the matter :-) )

PS - can you ask them if they still operate the minibus, and if they do, I'll start another list for that!!!
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

OK, I popped into the Melbourne Arms on my way home from work last night. I've reserved spaces for 30 at the moment sitting on Friday 19th April at 8pm, all having the set meal for £16 per head, as that seems to have worked pretty well in the past. Details of it are here: http://www.melbournearms.com/images/pdf ... t_2009.pdf

We'll be able to tweak the numbers nearer the time. However to anyone who hasn’t put their name/s down yet: don't count on being able to squeeze in at the last minute, because it vastly increases your chances of disappointment (they don't like being made to run round preparing extra on their busiest night of the week).

If interested just copy the list and add yourself/selves to it, if you haven't already done so. When it gets above 40 then I may start getting a bit twitchy, but we're fine for the moment - the more the merrier - even LEF'ers!

One previous year there was a bit of a problem with numbers. A few dropped out without removing themselves from the list, which left us rather short on the night. The restaurant had prepared almost 50% more meals than were actually needed, but fortunately they didn't demand that we pay the full amount. Because of this, please could everyone put down a tenner per head deposit? It will only leave £6 plus beer to pay for on the night, and will give much more confidence in the final tally.

I'd rather not do PayPal cos I'd get stiffed for charges to draw it all out again. So if everyone could send a cheque to the address below it would be much appreciated, and I'll bring along all the cash on the night. I can accept direct bank transfers if you’d rather pay that way, but please PM me for the details as I’d rather not stick that kind of info on an open forum!

Dave, I'm afraid they don't have the minibus any longer.

Payment made by EBT - reference (unsurprisingly!) should appear as "Pinky's curry" :?

Thanks Dave.

I've just started a new thread for the Curry Evening so that this one (which seems to be for just about everything else Donington 2013 related) doesn't get swamped by Curry arrangements!
So the new Friday Curry Evening thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=21869

In fact, it occurred to me that the other subjects above ought to also have their own threads, so now they do! :D

Donington Travelodge - Fri 19th & Sat 20th April 2013: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=21870
Donington Saturday Convoy - Sat 20th April 2013: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=21871
Donington Saturday Eve Dinner-Dance - Sat 20th April 2013: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=21872

If anything doesn't fall into any of the above categories, then feel free to bring it up here. Otherwise hopefully splitting them up will help all stay current and confusion-free.

As it gets closer to the event, more and more is likely to be posted about the different subjects making individual arrangements - the last Curry Evening thread from 2011 took 5 pages alone to organise. Then there was another 3 for transport to and from the event, 4 pages for the convoy, 4 for accommodation... there ended up being 21 topics spread over 42 pages!

Point is (especially when people are likely to get emotional having paid for stuff): it would soon become a nightmare to keep track of organisation if that lot were all bundled together.

So seeing as I'm doing it, I made a decision that I thought should help, before it all got too late to be manageable.
