That sounds to be very competitive bearing in mind it is 3 days' work. Your friend needs to take into account that many Elans have been fitted with sound systems, power switches and other things which have to be disconnected, reconnected and relocated.

What region is your friend located in?

he is in Milton Keynes, lives in same road as myself. He fitted my suspension and Hispecs and has sorted some other issues for me also... I would be happy for him to do my car first as a test...

Inwas hoping to do the full fairing and rear deck when I eventually went ahead, are the plans/moulds available?

Post some links to the threads with pictures showing what happens if the car ever flips upside down. Basically, the front windscreen supports may collapse, and although it might be unlikely, it's a scary scenario and made me decide that if I wanted to take my children as passengers I couldn't bring myself to do it without the rollbar.

To be honest I think it's cost against risk, and on balance the hoops seem expensive against the risk of turning the car over. I suspect that this is causing the difficulties in getting your numbers.

I only trust that if this is the reason then we have interpretated the risk correctly!!!

I totally agree with your first point, Pete.

The second one is subjective

Having had involvement in a professional capacity with a fatal RTA where an elan flipped over (not the drivers fault - he swerved to avoid an overtaking oncoming vehicle who hadn't seen him, wheels dug into grass verge and car flipped) I wouldn't want to drive one without hoops.

I'm failry sure that Guk agrees with me - he should have bought a lottery ticket on that fateful day

Unfortunately, without them you need to be lucky every time you go out (and 99.9999999999% of the time you will be) - I suppose it's a bit like an insurance policy - you never know how good it is until you claim on it, but we always hope that we never have to - and some live quite happily without one.

Is that exactly what they look like? I'm interested but would like to know exactly what I'd be signing up to. That looks like rollover hoops, some sort of cover on them and a replacement hood lid. Is that the entire package being proposed here? If so I'm interested depending on costs.

Yes, the pictures show the hoops plus hoop covers and revised hood cover panel. The hoop covers are shaped to flow into the hood cover panel so that you really need the pair.

My focus has been on only the hoops themselves. Personally, I prefer the look of the bare bars. I expect that the moulds for the hoop covers and the hood cover panel still exist and could be used to make some more. If so, I doubt that they would cost too much. And, the hoop covers could probably be made in carbon fibre - the fabricator has the appropriate skills.

I've maybe misread; I tend to come on here after finishing 16-hour shifts to chill out and my brain isn't always fully on.

I thought that the plan was to do the full Kuching kit - hoops, fairings and covers. I am interested in all of that.

I don't really have any knowledge of who could produce something like that and if I start to investigate anything, it will be rear hubs. But just to be clear, I am interested in not only roll hoops, but fairings/deck and covers to match.

I have kept a close eye on this thread as I am very interested in having roll over hoops. The initial time scale of Apr/May didn't work for me for various reasons (house move, respray etc). Now that it seems to be slipping into May/Jun or later, while not so good for Rusty, works for me.

I would like to see a few measurements and the fitting instructions first though, I have the S2000 seats in my car and am not too sure how the hoops will fit around them. These seats are so comfortable I would be really reluctant to go back to the originals. I understand the safety concerns but Alfa never fitted hoops to the Spider either.

I am very interested in a set, will there be a possibility to be included even tho I am in the US. postage would obviously be an issue, but one I am willing to do because I love the look and safety from the hoops. I am in.

Fantastic. In a few days, we have gone from a group of 3 to a group of (maybe) 8. I hope that we can sign up two more people soon and start getting the hoops manufactured.

I have got some work to do with hoop covers and hood cover panels, so I'll see how easily they can be obtained, and at what price.
