New Gear Cable Options?

Postby Aoki Magic Pants » Wed 05.06.2013, 16:01

Just to add to the many topics on the gear cables... but my gear change cables finally gave in as they seem to do (S2). What are my options for a new set? I'm I correct in assuming that Bob's aren't available anymore and neither are the AB ones? If so that would leave my with S2 cables from SJ's as the only viable option?

I have a feeling you can find alternatives by having a good read through Bob's cable thread? I must admit that I didn't follow it very closely because I already had AB cables.

IIRC the cables can be sourced elsewhere because he recommended the north American members do this rather than pay shipping fees.
This leaves the ends: I think these could be bought from somewhere instead of having to be manufactured.

The ends and adapters are unique to the M100. The actual rod ends are common 6mm and 8mm bits but the adapters and angular enhancing spacers are all Bob B designs.

Also, the cables are based on a standard but need to be made to order.

If someone has a set of gear cables they can loan then I'll take them to Speedy Cables in Swansea to see if they can fabricate replacements.

Speedy Cables is the company Bob used to fabricate the handbrake cables.

The cables themselves are:

200-M4222-1210
200-M4222-1235

$78/each from Cory Hatton at Davidson Hardware (chatton *AT* davidsonhardware *DOT* com)

The ends are simple machined parts and commonly available rod ends. Mine are on the car, but if someone has an uninstalled set, I can draw them and make the files available for people to have fabricated locally.
