PNM engineering rear brake calipers

Has anyone fitted the rear calipers for 15in wheels from PNM engineering if so are they any good, they say on there site that the calipers have a modern efficient hand brake mecanism.

I'm waiting to hear back from them now! I have always planned to fit these (although I will go for the 16" set if it works) and Peter is highly recommended by a few people.

Now it seems I don't have a choice as mine are binding and in the interests of aesthetics I'm going to fit new items rather than go second hand. Keep an eye out on the Group Buy section as I think I will be able to get the custom hubs built again pretty soon, and hope to take the 16" kit and make a bracket for it allowing for a slightly bigger rear disc. I know a few on here have them and are happy with them; I think its a case of no news is good news as we've all heard about the problems with the Hi-Specs which in fairness to HiSpec were never made to be compatible with the Elan from what they've said to me.

Jim did you get them yet ? Or has anyone fitted them yet? My car passed its MOT yesterday but my mechanic says that the callipers are shot, did say last year that the sliders were seized so I've ordered a pair from PNM today £400 with pads and delivery should be here this time next week for installation. He said that he had orders for a few sets that he was about to send but would get mine out asap.

Not received yet. PNM have phoned to apologise for the delay (Peter's mother has died and Peter has had to go to France to sort things out )

I fitted them in march and drove 900 miles with the novelty and pleasure of having modern feeling brakes and a handbrake that worked.

Easy to fit, although I had previously refurbished my rear hubs. Peter did mention that had he known of the Bob Brown (now Jeemy?) hubs, he could have incorporated bigger disks.

They do not fit because I have non-standard hubs and discs fitted. I have a kit that came from someone called, er, Bob, I think

The caliper carrier has about 1mm clearance either side of the disc. So, because my non-standard hub/disc combination sits 1mm closer to the car than standard the carrier rubs the disc. Not good. I am working on a temporary fix.

Worth noting to anyone who is contemplating using the PNM kit.

Jim,

I have this kit fitted with Bob´s hubs. One issue I had was that the caliper slider bolts were 2mm too long and contacted the discs, a 2mm washer cured the problem.

I discussed this on the phone with Pete and sent a feedback email but had no reply to that.

Thank you for the post and the PM. I've double-checked and the bolt isn't standing proud. I suspect PNM have provided a thicker washer.

If I space the disc away from the hub with a spacer, all is good. Not the perfect engineering solution. Alternatively I could get 1mm milled off the PNM bracket then it would be OK, but I'd loose the passivated surface.

So jim have you got standard hubs on yours?

As a thought, which discs are you using? I have the Mintex MDC 266 which seem to fit.

It may be that there is a slight height difference causing the issue. It shown better in the Brembo aftermarket catalogue:

The listing shows 41mm but the drawing shows 41.1mm not a lot but maybe enough to give contact with the bracket.
