Hood and door seals

One of my business contacts regularly visits China for the supply and manufacture of non-original replacement parts. His own business specialises in parts for the construction industry, such as filters, carburettors, engine mounts and pots and pistons for fitment to small engines eg Honda, Stihl, Makita, Yanmar as used on generators, power packs, disc saws, floor saws, chain saws, lawn mowers etc etc.

I happened to mention M100 door and hood seal problems, and he said get me some samples and I will see my Chinese contacts.

Any one think this a good idea to follow up? Are there any "rights to manufacture" issues? And does anyone have any used but reasonable condition seals to use for samples?

I would also like to judge the potential demand and what people would be prepared to pay for each component/a set. Reference to Lotus original final price list would also be relevant.

I like the innitiative, especially if they will be made out of another material.

Feel free to ask me to discuss alternatives as choice of material listens very accurate imho.

If a compleat set of seals were available anyone with an Elan as long term project would be mad not to!

Would be a great idea. I'd be interested in a set.

I recently contacted Bibs to check with the factory to ask if they have any intention of remaking these parts (probably the cheapest option)
or if they would sell the moulds (if they still have them. It may be a similar story to the escutcheons where the moulds went to Kia)
or object to us having a mould made. He is waiting for a list of part numbers. (sorry been a bit busy).

Just Last night I sent a picture of the falling pillar and intermediate seals to the company making the B post caps to see if can do foam rubber
injection moulds and to enquire about the max size they can make. I believe that the larger seals will be too expensive.

I have the 2 falling pillars and 1 intermediate here but I don't think that they are in good enough condition to use for the mould.
I know someone with a pair of "new" door seals sat behind his couch

I'd support this 100%. I had a nightmare trying to replace my seals. I asked various companies about manufacturing new ones too but got nowhere. It'd be great if you could do this, I'd buy a full set minus the A pillars.

Id be up fpr a full set, my seals were in great condition when I got the car, 4 years on and they look terrible... Id probably want two sets to cover me depending on costs

It seems to me that, what we really need is an ongoing reliable supply rather than a one-off group buy. Perhaps this is what is intended.

Incidentally, I think that SJS might also be investigating sourcing some of these seals.
