Postby localad » Tue 06.08.2013, 13:53

Hi Guys wondered if you could help, I am looking for the clips that hold the diaphram under the sear, Paul Matty has a huge back order also I have been told I need a sponge kit and the sponge has slowly disintegrated !Where do I get that? Answers on a postcard lol, any advice would be great, I am on the look out for a seat but having no luck

I think I have some S/H clips spare from when I "refurbished" my seats. Part of the refurb included fitting new diaphragms and they came complete with a set of new clips, so I saved any of the old ones that were still OK.

I'll delve into my spares store and report back.

Sponge kit?? Never heard of them before! I'll be interested to see what appears.

The seat cushion foam is C100V0083F but it went obsolete in 1995. The clips are A100U6059S which are a good number from any Lotus Dealer and they cost 70p each. Try your local Lotus dealer or SJS.

Yes, I thought so, I have eight of them and they're all in good condition. Let me know if you'd like any or all of them.

Can't you cut & bend some old-fashioned coat hangers to make some new clips?

I don't think so - I seem to recall I tried something similar but my home-made version wasn't anywhere near strong or stiff enough.
These diaphragms are so troublesome I've been thinking about making up an aluminium sheet and pop-riveting it in!

I've read this as a possible solution before on here and I've always found it difficult to understand how it would work, so your experience doesn't surprise me.

The proper clips are massively strong and need to be, as the tension put on them by the diaphragm is enormous. We had great difficulty in even getting the clips on due to the tension they were under. I had the scars all over my hands as evidence!!
