Or has the insurance company made a realistic (descision making) offer?
Hope the news is good Mr Pink.
Well, there is news - but not good news
They have upped their offer from £2750 to a mind-boggling £3250, and say it is their final offer (we got a letter yesterday!)
I have previously sent them a detailed breakdown of the car, and work done, costs spent etc, totalling a hell of a lot more. Whilst I accept that I can't expect all my money back, I don't think the insured amount (at renewal in May) of £5k is unreasonable - but they seem to think that it's an old car with 144K on the clock and are disregarding all of the upgrades (even though they were declared when they took the premium!), and the fact that the engine/gearbox/all suspension and 'moving parts' have done a fraction of that, the interior was totally replaced, along with the roof and all seals - etc etc etc.
They now say that I will receive the money this week, and have 21 days to dispute the claim and get my own independant engineer to examine the car - which is fine, except they won't tell me where it is!!!!
They have also sent me some photos which show damage to the rear (as expected) but also damage to FNS of bumper, and FOS wheelarch - neither of which were like it when the car left here - I have photos of the car just before it was collected.
The pictures also show the car out in the rain, uncovered, with the windows part open
Suffice to say, they will be getting a phone call in the morning expressing my total unhappiness of the situation.
In the meantime, how 'independant' do they expect my engineer to be (seeing as the one they used is 'theirs' not independant) - I can find plenty of people I know to give a valuation, but does anyone know what they'll accept???
Is it worth sending some photos (and details of all work done) off to Club Lotus asking for a valuation? It would cost me a few quid, but would they accept that? - they do if you want an 'agreed value', but would they now?
Perhaps I'll give Alan a ring and ask his oppinion, he may well be able to assist with an 'independant' valuation - but it will also depend on whereabouts in the country they've taken the car.
All in all, I'm NOT HAPPY with KGM insurance, and wouldn't ever recomend them, or use them again - it was insured via Peter James, who use a variety of insurers, but I cant see me going there again, unless they find another (reputable) company to actually underwrite it.
