Roll-over Hoops - Who would like to be part of a group buy?

Being perfectly honest, I don't mind if my design was copied or modified. What I do Carew about is the potential life they may save.

The V brace that mates to the backbone of the frame, the reason it was set so far back had to do more with adhering to the SCCA rules on rollbar construction and the fact that in the event of a forward momentum roll that the structure would maintain its integrity. Furthermore, there is fery little steel in an Élan. You must use what is there to support whatever structure you develop. That metal must also be substantial enough to support the weight of the chassis long enough to afford a better than reasonable chance of survival. It is a well known fact that the windshield frame will not support the car for any length of time due to its severe rake and lack of support. Whatever is build must then support that weight and do so under the addition of the momentum of the impact. That will dictate the thickness of said steel structure. Hence why I used the steel I did. It's been tested time and again for sheer strength and it exceeded the exponential weight of the car under an impact of over 100MPH. Sadly though, the frame of the car will not and will distort badly under such duress.

Be very aware of what steel is used as there are some high strength steels that are very brittle and can/will sheer/fragment under extreme stress rather that deform.

The urgency of this project has lessened for me in recent days now that I have sourced a Kuching hardtop. Unfortunately, the courier has badly damaged a corner of it so it will need more than a respray.

I'm still after hoops as a winter project, though, and we are so close to reaching the magic 10 people required to proceed.

It would be good to get this buy moving, because the fabricator has more capacity to do this work during the winter than in the spring and summer. We might be able to proceed if we can get 8 buyers rather than 10, so if anyone is holding back, now is the time to sign up.

Just to say that I'm very happy with mine, which Simon fitted in the last batch

Me too AND, Simon kindly agreed to spray them red before installation so they look a treat! The hood clearances are VERY close and I find it impossible to avoid catching the paint on the offside, lower section of the outer tube - just the offside (!?) I wrapped some clear helicopter tape around the vulnerable area and although it works to an extent, in reality it reduces the clearance even more so it has to be replaced every now and again. Carefully bending the hood frame while raising or lowering the hood reduces but does not remove, the problem.

I'm still definitely after the rear deck. Funds will dictate whether I can take hoops or not. Selling everything I don't need at the moment, so maybe!

I think I have a buyer for my LGM hoops, if thats still in the works, then definitely.

But definitely want fairing & deck still.

Yeah, I'm a weak maybe as well. I can't decide whether I want to keep this car, but if it's going to be around long term I should really do this.

This is possibly the last opportunity to buy these hoops as part of a group. It has taken me a year to get sufficient takers, and I'm still not quite there yet. In future, these hoops would probably have to be made as one offs, which would significantly increase cost.

Thanks for emailing the instructions Howard, I showed them to Steve & he nearly had a heart attack, so little encouragement from him
I think ill have to give it a miss as things are at the moment, i would be seriously lost who could fit the hoops for me
Our lad pointed out the cost of the Mugen Honda S2000 rear cage, suppose it makes the hoops look OK re: cost
