What time do you call lunch-time? - being a brummy, I have breakfast, dinner and tea three times a day!

This is BOLLECKS and we can't be too specific and in any case I don't have a watch, but in Brummy terms it's somewhere about the second meals of the day when the big shiny thing gets above the roof tops.

Well thanks again guys. Managed to get home without further ado, in fact she drove like a dream!

The revs settled quite quickly to 950 rpm and the temperature was stable other than when log jammed when it rose as expected, the only odd thing being that during normal driving the gauge was only just on the scale - considerably below the quarter mark! Interestingly, on returning and opening the bonnet I feel the whole engine compartment is cooler - could it be that it wasn't bled properly before?

The strange clunking on braking seemed to be absent (now how could that happen?) I'll still have a look under tomorrow though!

Cheers for listening to my moans and lackluster conversation, but some times the car winds me up!

Glad you got home okay Pete.

As far as the low temp reading goes, partly it could be down to a lack of bleeding the radiator previously, but I'd still go with the theory that there is possibly an air bubble somewhere in the thermostat housing, and it is causing the temp sensor to read incorrectly.......

...there are 3 sensors in the area, one for the fan switch, one for the ECU and one for the guage - any air may affect any of the sensor readings - best to unscrew each sensor slightly until water comes out, not air, but if you just leave it alone, it may well find it's own way out of the system.

Probably worth bleeding the radiator again as well (now you know how to )

Thanks Dave, will re-bleed later incidentally, that clunking on braking, I can't find that bracket you mentioned V.frustrating - may be I haven't got one, certainly that would cause a clunk!!!;

Hmm, if you haven't got the bracket, then you haven't got an O/S driveshaft, so you wouldn't go anywhere!

I can't find a photo which shows it, but it is definately there!

Best way to describe its location is near to the altenator.

If you feel up the back of the engine block, along the driveshaft, you will come across the bracket which (should be) bolted tight to the engine block by a couple of 14mm (headed, not thread!) bolts.

A combunation of vibration and age (or incorrect initial tightening) can cause one or both bolts to work loose and cause your symptoms - if it becomes completely undone, i don't think that there is enough room for it to spin round and the drive shaft to drop off, but I'm sure it'd make some interesting noises

Yep, got it. Bottom bolt was pretty tight but took a little turn, the top bolt is missing! Any ideas if there is anything special about this bolt presumably I can get the size from the manual?

Glad you found it before it fell off!

Firstly, I don't think that there is anything special about the bolt, but I can't remember - I just re-used mine.

Secondly, the parts guide just gives a part number, not a size - this suggests to me that it might not be a 'standard' bolt (possibly only because the head (spanner) size is not what you would normally get on that thread diameter/pitch?????)....

...that's not to say that a standard bolt wouldn't do the job, though - nowt special about the tensile strength needed - it just supports the bearing...

....it may well be that the thread is something like M10, but the head is (IIRC) 14mm, whereas a 'standard' M10 would have a 17mm head, which may not fit in the metal bracket without fowling.

I would suggest sticking any old bolt into the top hole just to hold it in place, remove the good one (they're both the same part number, so will be identical) and measure it (thread diameter/pitch & length) - if it needs a smaller than standard head, I would suggest just using a cap-head bolt with an allen key fitting......

Honey Cafe 9/9:30 Sunday 14th Sept



Ok guys it looks like this Sunday 14th has been chosen as the inaugural breakfast meet.

I hope to take both cars and would be great to see as many Lotus as possible for the meeting. It has been decided to use the Honey Café.

As Rob said in his previous post it is less than an hour from most places and on the most part some nice roads to get to it. So say after an hour or breakie and chat gives us time for run over the ranges or Chappels (and be home before Sunday lunch!) or even further if want to make day if it. Good central location for those in East, West and North to meet us Southerners, big car park, great food (indoors and outdoors). Friends can arrange to meet each on way to cafe as usual should they wish.
