For example, there is a rusty-looking pipe visible when peering through the OS wheelarch. I haven't figured out what it is yet.

Rob: my guess is this would be one of the PAS pipes, probably the one from the reservoir to the pump. It's a mix of steel pipe and hose and is a low pressure pipe I think. Mine is well rusty too and needs replacing shortly, or sooner!

The induction hoses are a serious disappointment. The flex part is orange and white, not whatever color I chose (black). It's three inches of black at the ends with the rest being orange. I don't want them and am pissed I've lost $100 on them. I expected black hoses. I guess the example picture of the orange ends with the orange flex led me to believe that the flex would be whatever color we selected. Being as picky about our cars as we are, I'm not putting something orange under the hood of my yellow car. Any idea if I can return these?

Not much help from Amber. Supposedly, the flexible material they have sourced is ONLY available in ORANGE. He was shocked that I couldn't see that the sample picture is really red ends with the orange flex. (It isn't, the Audi pictures are red/orange, the Lotus one is Orange/Orange).

They sell hundreds to AUDI Quatro owners who LIKE the orange, so he doesn't understand why you might not want orange hoses in your yellow car.

I suggested that they offer a picture that actually shows a Black or Blue hose with the Orange flex so nobody is suprised by the odd color they are providing.

The only offer I could get from him was to have you return the hoses AT YOUR EXPENSE and he will refund your purchase price. He did say you could try to paint the orange but feared the flex would inhibit adhesion.

I have expressed my disappointment at this option and their policy to show what looks like a matching color hose on the purchase page. It got me nowhere, but at least he knows I think it is a mistake to avoid full disclosure and meaningful pictures.

I will watch for any future Samco Hose postings and make sure everyone knows the induction hoses are really orange.

How about listing the hoses under Elan Parts For Sale?

Amber performance has a 'customer service from hell'. (not my words but i agree)
I just completed a group buy of 13 sets and it was not an easy process to use an understatement.

Samco's developement dept. is nice to deal with, but the sale channels...
None of the 13 participants is willing to ever order with Amber again and i certaintly will never organise a groupbuy anymore.
Samco would be wise to have quality control screen the sales channels and do a customer statisfaction survey!

I've just opened my set, the first after the test set, ordered in Gunmetal grey, on reading this. Sure enough, my centre pieces are orange. I had extensive communication with James before the group buy started, was awarded the group buy rate because build on mine didn't start until 8 weeks plus after I ordered, meaning I had to refit my old hoses in the interim. Nothing was ever mentioned apart from that the massive delays were because I was ordering a custom colour. One REALLY would have thought that if that was the excuse, I'd get the bloody colour I paid for.

I am bitterly disappointed.

Like everyone else, I need the hoses, but I am pretty pissed off that I did not get what was advertised at what, regardless of the discount organised, was a pretty steep rate.

I bought a lot of silicon parts off AutoSiliconHoses, and experienced similar delays and disappointments - the products when they arrived, 3-4 months late and causing me to have to refit old parts simply to move on, were nowhere close to the advertised in terms of gloss, finish or colour. I would imagine there is one factory in China churning out this crap and we are resigned to buying it if we want compression/no leaks.

I've had a look at a few specialist silicon paint websites - mainly intended for prosthetics. Heat will be the issue. Perhaps we can find a latex/silicon paint. I need something like this for refinishing seals too. Will report back…...

Crisis averted because good buddy superbad has bought those two flex hoses from me. Thanks to everyone again, these hoses seem top quality and my Elan thanks you.
