When I designed my (analogue) automatic drop/lift circuit, I triggered it off the interior light switches because the S2 alarm is pretty inaccessible and I was considering adding window closed sensors when I get the doors apart to replace the speakers. Looking at the SE circuit diagram, I see there are a couple of switches feeding the CDL which you might be able to tap into. Don't ask me what they do because I ain't got the foggiest!

I believe that all the UK S2's all have factory fitted alarms and the diagram is on the Wiki under Circuit Diagrams (S2) > Page 29 : S2 Alarm System

Well I'm confused then. The CDL schematic on the wiki (doesn't say if its SE or S2 - possibly identical?) shows two micro switches in the system for each door. One for door ajar (can be used to determine when door is opened/closed) and one that seems to send a signal to the ECM to give the door lock status according to the manual. may not want to touch that if its going into the ECM (makes me nervous) but there's also something to tap right on the CDL I'm sure. I believe the goal with the module design will be to use the door ajar wire to sense the door open/close and possibly something off the CDL to sense door lock/unlock. It won't be handed - any door triggering the module will cause both windows to run the action.


Sooo.......I'm not sure what you meant when you said it wouldn't work but could be me not understanding???? Did I miss the S2 link for the CDL? I've not reviewed the alarm schematic thinking it wouldn't be involved.

The alarmed S2 doesn't have a CDL - see here for the SE and here for the S2.

Whether the microswitches and wiring are in situ is another question, but not one I can answer until I replace my speakers.

Ahhhh.............I see. So, the alarm system does all the door locking itself then? Door open/ajar switches and wiring must be there I would think. Have to know when to turn the interior lights on somehow. The door lock/unlock sensing could be done off the alarm system somehow. Will investigate with the designer. Thanks!

The good news is: The door card is off to replace the speakers.
The bad news is: I had to drill and use a screw extractor to get the scrivets out.

The good news is: The genuine Lotus speaker is out.
The bad news is: The speaker has added lightness - the diaphragm surround appears to have been made of water soluble plastic.

The good news is: I can see the wiring.
The bad news is: I can't see the individual wiring to confirm whether the S2 has the same switches connected as the SE.

The good news is: It's quite warm.
The bad news is: My father fell on Christmas day and broke his hip, so I'm not going to be able to give you an answer just yet.

Well, I am WELL overdue for an update to this thread and I really do have to apologize for not taking the time to bring everyone who is (was) interested in this concept up to speed. As you all may have guessed by now this project appears to have gone off the rails. While I have been in touch with the designer (who is semi retired) it appears that a combination of bad health and a waning interest in the project may have killed it off. At least for him. I know that's not good news for anyone who was keen on getting this module built - especially me!

However,

I have just started a conversation with another fellow local to me about using an off the shelf module which can provide at least half of the functionality we'd want AND, with a little work, might be able to get very close to meeting all the desired criteria. Its very early and there's lots of stuff to discuss but at least the project still has a faint pulse. I'll keep everyone informed on how we make out.

Hi Elanlover,

Sorry to hear that things went a bit off track, but it's also great to get an update and potential new lead on this concept. I'm still keen as my windows don't tuck under the leading edge of the hood seal when the doors are closed, I have to flick the seal over manually.

The main feature I'm looking for is the drop on door opening and raise on closing, anything more than that is a bonus.
