I went to a local place today called county customs to enquire about getting a new rear window fitted and patching up 3 holes, he quoted me a reasonable price to do this work.
He then went on to say he could do a complete new hood for £550..now this sounds like a very reasonable price to me. Is this a good price? anything i should ask them or make sure is included in the price?

Car Hood Warehouse charged about £700 for a new hood + elastic webbing inc VAT.
I belive it is the S2 design.
£550 seems good but I would ensure they are aware of the seal issue and they are confident they can remove the old fabric and fit the new without damaging the seals.

If yours is an SE and he's using it as a template the S2 is slightly better around the B Post ... a picture will give him an idea of what's required.
If your frame is susceptible to damaging the hood it might be as well to have the new hood strengthened in that area from the start.
Also there's a thread on here of someone having one made that didn't quite go to plan ... probably worth reading to avoid an action replay.

Has anyone ever seen a red elan fitted with any other colour hood other than black?

It's now booked in to have a complete new hood!
If any s2 owners could post some pics of the b post area that would be great!

I've never seen one, but I think khaki/tan/sand would look great.

I'm going for black, but I was considering dark red?

I need a new hood too and hope to salvage my seals, grateful if you could post some pics of the new hood and condition of the seals.
Thanks

They are reusing my current seals, they said they can remove and re-use them.

I picked it up today and they have done a great job! It's nice to be able to see Out the back window! The hood is nice and tight unlike my old saggy one. Very impressed!
