Front Clam:- repair or replace?

Me again but this forum is a source of good info. The front body panel below the indicators has a split in 2 places. Easier to replace or repair?

I'd say repair. Replacement means it has to come off but so might repair, replacement will mean respray but so might repair, replacement means potential delivery cost/issues, replacement means your left with a large body component to dispose of.

If it needs to come off then the process is detailed on here somewhere and whilst it's away you get the chance to sort all those front end problems that are now revealed.

You'll see a section on here above 'manuals', if you haven't got a cd containing all the workbooks etc then make sure that you have authority to peruse this section - it'll be invaluable.

If it is the bumper that is actually split, it may be helpful if the thread title were changed to Front Bumper:- repair or replace?

As said elsewhere several people have Elans to break before you break the bank at DVB. Can also add "surfboardfiller" to list of someone breaking/partially breaking a car........dapinky's old one.

Sorry yes it's the front bumper. There is no splitter on the car. The front clam is the bit around the headlights?

I spoke to 2 body repair guys yesterday and they didn't want to touch it. Will ask around again.

Most bodyshops only deal with metal-panels so it is quite understandable that they don't want to try a fibreglass repair.
A boat-builder may be a better option?

Unlike the rest of the car the bumpers are not fibreglass but actually plastic just as the majority of manufacturers use so most good body shops should be used to this type of repair and not be daunted!
