One touch window up/down control

A quick update:

Some modifications were required to get the load sensing to work satisfactorily, make the module wake up upon current sensing, etc. This is a complicated project with a lot of testing and reworking required but it seems all of the major issues have been resolved, A revised prototype will hopefully be tested next week.

Update:

We've hit a bit of a snag on the project. Nothing too serious - just a delay. The designer working on this obviously runs a business. That business is entering a period that requires him to be away for a bit. The result is that he won't be back on the project until some time in May so we're 30 days away from the project restarting. The good news is that it appears that all the technical issues have been ironed out and a (hopefully) final prototype was near completion when he had to stop work on it. If everything goes as planned delivery can start sometime around the official start of summer.

I apologize for the delay (I'm as anxious as anyone to add this to the car) but I'm pretty confident that we'll end up with a solidly designed product that will outlast our cars and be problem free.

I hope to do a switch replace/relocate at the same time, and I am interested discussing the finer points of the unit's operation.
Specifically, I intend to have the controls in the doors, with passenger window control available from both the driver's and passenger's side - so two switches.

Well, I am WELL overdue for an update to this thread and I really do have to apologize for not taking the time to bring everyone who is (was) interested in this concept up to speed. As you all may have guessed by now this project appears to have gone off the rails. While I have been in touch with the designer (who is semi retired) it appears that a combination of bad health and a waning interest in the project may have killed it off. At least for him. I know that's not good news for anyone who was keen on getting this module built - especially me!

However,

I have just started a conversation with another fellow local to me about using an off the shelf module which can provide at least half of the functionality we'd want AND, with a little work, might be able to get very close to meeting all the desired criteria. Its very early and there's lots of stuff to discuss but at least the project still has a faint pulse. I'll keep everyone informed on how we make out.

After a little preliminary research it looks like some of the features in the original design may be possible with the Directed 535T Window Automation module. By "some" I mean the following:

1) convert the "manual" window up down feature to a "one touch" feature such that tapping the window up or down will raise/lower the window all the way
2) touching the window switch again will stop the automated action (less sophisticated than the original design with no true manual control over the window operation)
3) window will drop a programmed distance when car unlocked with alarm (may be possible to trigger same action if door unlocked without alarm installed or door opened when already in unlocked state)


What we're looking into is:

1) related to 3) above, can window roll up when the door is locked and/or door is closed (reseals the window)



Additional features available with this module:

1) windows roll all the way up when alarm is activated and doors are locked
OR
2) windows roll up if alarm is triggered


Features missing from original design:

1) window controls will work for 120 seconds after the ignition is turned off (gives time to put roof up, remove packages from car, etc.)
2) holding window for more than 1/4 second gives you the manual control that we all have now - no manual control will be possible and you'll have to tap the switch to stop the auto up/down function when window is where you want it
3) a double tap on the down direction driver's side switch (within half a second or so) gives you the "re-seal" function - no manual reseal function available
4) the module will contain a programming port so that additional features can be added in the future (likely by the designer and not you or me).
5) the module will have a master switch to disable it and return window operation to normal for servicing the windows if desired


It would be less sophisticated in its operation but provide for most of what people want. It will also take more installation effort as removing the door cards to get at the motors may be required. It will probably end up being close in price to the original concept. I'll let you know how things go when we dig deeper.



P.S. Does anyone know where the door harnesses (RHDHC and LHDHC) connect? Things might be easier if the connectors are in the car as opposed to inside the door itself.

I know that the central locking goes through the square connector inside the car on the left hand end of the dash, in/above the kick panel on my RHD SE model. Pretty certain the electric windows go the same route.

All door wiring goes through 2 plugs/sockets behind each dash end - can't say which is which, but it is all there!
