Nice looking wheel, what spec are they? offset etc

Not usually a fan of non-standard wheels but those looks pretty impressive and definately suit the car IMO :D

I like them.

No idea.
If Lotus have done something unusual to chassis/suspension/steering/wheels there must have been a technical advantage for it.

They where the first to master torque steering on high power FWD...

Thanks Rob. :-)

The wheels are 6.5J x 16 with an offset of 35. I mounted Dunlop SportMax tyres to them and am very pleased with the result. I do run them with 2.3bar pressure all around.

2.3 bar...for all of us in the UK & US who are stuck with imperial, that is 33.5 PSI.

A little higher than what the manual suggests but with a different offset, you may want different pressures too.

Yes, sorry! I should have provided the conversion myself. Thanks!

Here are some shots taken earlier today, with the Lotus wheel center caps now fitted.

Actualy, these are just stickers, as I wasn't sure if I would like the gel pads that are available on eBay. The stickers actually lokk quite nice, but time will tell how well they will cope with the elements and all.

Cheers!

Looking at theses photos, is there a modification to your wheel arches? Why is your lotus so lumpy around the wheels? I understand your is the S2, but all photos of the other S2 have same wheel flarings as the S1... Just an observation. Also your new wheels look great, small because of your swollen arches, but looks nice.

Thank you for your comment, James. I share your suspicion regarding the rear wheelarches. However, I had no reference at the time of purchase and actually like the look of the car that way. I have installed spacers at the back to compensate for the narrow wheels. When I bought it, the car had 235/40/17 mounted up front and 245/40/17 at the back. ;-)

They will arrive sometime next week together with the Dunlop Sportmax tyres. I will post photos for you then. ;-)

Cheers

What's the offset? I assume not the original 60mm. How does the steering feel?

Hi!

I am very happy with the way the car handles, but I have not had a chance to compare the handling of my own car to one fitted with the original wheels yet. Under heavy breaking in a combination of bends, when you for example would dip the car into a left-hander followed by a tight righ-hander, my car tends to turn in under breaking. I actually love this, as it kind of mimics a slight tendancy to oversteer, but without ever loosing the back end. The steering wheel never feels anything else but brilliantly tight and accurate. I love my Elan S2! :-)

Cheers!

Looks very much like a bodyshop conversion to me  I'm not sure I like the extra bulges but the wheels look good

My physics understanding ended when I left college nearly 20 years ago, but wouldn't a wide rear track on a FWD car just inhibit handling? Since the rear axle is just being tugged along and there only to provide something to keep the back half of the car from dragging on the asphalt, I would imagine that you'd want nothing wide than the front track, and if anything, smaller to provide quicker turn-in. Am I wrong?

I have to say though, the body work looks like it was done very well. I doubt most people would notice it's aftermarket at all.
