S2 Lock Bezel

Postby Jon » Fri 06.06.2014, 17:47

It seems the S2 Lock Bezel (the black ring around all the door locks) is different to the S2 and I'm being told it is NLA (or was never available in the first place).

Mine are looking decidedly old - very faded and look like they are starting to crack - I'd love to replace them. Having taken them off they seem to be a fairly simple plastic ring with a slight notch on the base to hold them on.

Does anyone know if they are standard from another vehicle and/or if there is some source for them?

Thanks!!

The S2 is different to the S2? :?
I'd start off by looking in scrapyards for similar aged Vauxhalls (if you can find any still left from that era!), as much of their parts bin was raided for the Elan.

According to the latest parts guide, Lotus shows the same bezel for all models part # A100B0587F and they are priced at £2.29 each

The Annotated version I got from Lotus has marked out the S2 fitment. There is no suggested part number for the S2.

What exactly is different?

Post a very clear picture of the bezel from multiple angles and sides and we can look into US GM model cars from the same vintage.

If you have an SE bezel, point out the differences.

My brother pointed out that they are exactly the same as were on his Nova.

Have a Gold Star Kathryn!

Just 17 posts and you have solved an on-going mystery. Looks like a very distinct possibility.

Brilliant - I think I have figured out that the Vauxhall part number might be 90124940

Certainly looks like the part here
http://www.opel-classicparts.de/abdeckung-43073.html

But everything I find on the Internet suggests it is NLA.

Seems like a good use of 3D scanning and printing....

That's the number I've been looking for and they've been NLA for many years.

It was one of the first things he said when we viewed the car. We then got inside and he pointed out several other similarities! Didn't put me off though!!

How about some decent pictures. GM never did parts for only one car. It is possible a US car used a similar or identical part but with a different part number.

Vauxhall-car-parts at 01562 731442 or info@vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk has a list of obsolete parts supposedly still available including 90124940. Give them a try?

The 1988 Pontiac Lemans pops up when I search that number too, so I will see if I can find one to look at it. They describe it as "COVER,FRT S/D LK(BLACK)(10.552) fits 1988 - 1993".

The number is dead from GM, but I can check all of the dealers in the US to see if anyone has some left in old stock. (it is actually easy to search if you have a friendly dealer willing to put it into a dealer to dealer search. I found all of the remaining shift housing gaskets in the US and bought up most of them.

Here are examples of the bezels - S2 on the left, SE on the right.

I've already contacted Vauxhall-Car-Part.co.uk and they don't recognise the part number??? Which is odd given they have it listed on their website!!

John C - I also noticed this seems to be used on the Pontiac LeMans - if you are able to tap up a friendly GM dealer to find out whether these are available anywhere in the US that would be really great!!

Thanks

Checked the USA Dealer stock database and there are none left on any shelves. Sorry.

The listing shows it is for a Pontiac. I will look deeper.

Just for the heck of it, I looked up replacement door lock cylinders for the Pontiac and the bezels are on the replacement locks.

Can anyone compare the assemblies and see if the bezels are correct? They look too rounded to me, but worth someone else looking.

Seems to be a waste to buy complete locks but if they are the same, the barrels should be swappable to keep the keys correct.

Look at Rock Auto, Pontiac 1992 LeMans, Body Exterior, Door Lock Cylinder to find part # DL10. Ultra Power is a little bit cheaper but doesn't say it is for a SET of locks, SMP does and shows a picture of two cylinders.

I hope this helps

Thanks John - really difficult to tell from the pictures, guess you'd probably need to take the lock out to be sure and that isn't something I'm planning at the moment...

My Elan is an SE but I have sourced the locks to convert all the barrels to match the ignition key just like an S2. The locks are exactly as shown by Brit-Car-Nut and come with the bezels. I've only managed to fit one so far to the drivers door and it took a lot of fetling of the lock, some adjustment to the door and making up new cams to connect the lock to the push rod. But the good new is they work and the bezel does the job.

The only issue is the locks came with grey bezels, nothing a bit of black paint couldn't fix.

Just to let you know that I have sourced S2 replacements from this German company https://www.ersatzteile-original.com/ad ... 4+&x=0&y=0 I had them delivered yesterday and they do fit (although they were black not grey). Very helpful guys, but I had to google translate all correspondence.

Hope this helps!?
