Cracked Binnacle Perspex

Postby Eagle1 » Mon 09.06.2014, 22:46

Just noticed a small, but annoying, crack in my instrument binnacle perspex. Can these be replaced or repaired or is it a case of one from another car?

The mask assembly A100N6000S has been obsolete for a while Same with the US SIR version A100N6009S.

Check places like SJS, Matty, Lotus Centre and any others that stocked up on Aftersales parts in the past. They might still have one or two laying around.

If not, then look to a breaker. eBay has two cars being broken right now besides DVB

If it's just the 'cosmetic' bits you need, then it's the same part as a Mark 3 Astra -EDIT - NO IT ISN'T something like ebay astra clocks.

The whole assembly will interchange, EDIT - NO IT WON'Tbut the speedo/odometer won't be accurate for an elan (and the speedo only goes up to 140mph!).....

..... but the housing will be identical, EDIT - NO IT ISN'Tand you will then have spare bulbs for the instrument panel, and (worth having), a Speed sensor.

You may be able to source one locally, or wait until a 'cheap' one comes up if you can put up with the defect for now....

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Dave is it the earlier Astra perspex that are identical? the one on Ebay is substantially different. Just like the oil pan I also happen to have one of these but....its attached to the rest of a KPH panel :-D

Colin,

It appears that in my haste to assist, I inadvertantly got it totally wrong

I bought an Astra instrument panel a few years ago as I needed some bits for the elan - and then I just assumed that the whole thing was the same, not just the internals I wanted, and didn't bother to look further before making my above post (which I've now edited).

It appears that i must admit to making a mistake (but don't tell my wife, she'll want to throw a party for such a monumentous admission!!!)

Ahhh bugger, thought you had found a replacement as mine were all scratched up in some way or another, which was why I bought the whole thing, but never fitted it :bonk:
