Because they will be made as sets of both sides, that is how they will be sold. The price will be very fair, but there is no way we can sell one side and not the other. There is no way to keep track unless they go out as sets since that is how we will receive them.

There will also be an other option just shortly for those people with a modicum of "hands on" skills", I have found something from a modern car which can be utilised to make the falling pillar, the intermediate and the side part of the header seal, the results are dramatic both in water exclusion and in appearance and they are EPDM, which is obviously going to last a lot longer than sponges, some may disagree with that but there are very few cars which use sponge for window seals, one other car I know of is the 306 convertible and all the ones I see in yards have the exact same problem as the Elan sponges, burst to bits, on the other hand I have been looking at EPDM seals on all the old cars and I see almost none with burst seals so don't be lured into thinking rubber seals are bad, just have a look around at any cars from the last 15 years with rubber window seals, are they all burst?.

The great thing about the new discovery is they are readily available folks and if you are reasonably competent with your hands you are going to have a very cheap option to make your Elan watertight and look really good into the bargain.

I realize I am going off topic a bit...But my header seal is pretty sad currently, and I would like to install my new top as it has been on the shelf for 2-3 years now. Is it even possible to do this without destroying the header seal? Has anyone done it? I have been hoping a decent replacement would come along, but realize it is not likely for reasons already mentioned.

Maybe the pieces mentioned earlier would be an option along with whatever I could salvage...

Car Hood Warehouse replaced my fabric hood without damaging the header seal so it must be possible

Shame really as I believe there is room for both options even in a small market place such as LEC. Let's face it, for many people they will choose to buy something already made that they or their garage can fit with next to zero hassle. That comes at a (price) premium, but it will be worth it compared to the time saved.

I have been watching Jamie's thread with interest and will definitely have a go at what he is suggesting to see if I can make it work tidily, but when I bought my car I did so on the basis it would need almost all the seals replacing, which I budgeted for. I'd like to think I'm good with my hands, but given the option of a full set of seals and instant gratification, I'd still buy them.

I'm new here, but it is apparent that John and Wayne have contributed a great deal over the years (I am slowly fixing my car by trawling for information and finding their posts everywhere) so it seems a shame that they aren't feeling appreciated just now and I hope that changes.

Given the outlay that Wayne must have made so far, I hope that he does go into production and makes the parts available to the after market at whatever the going rate is, to give those who have no interest in making their own parts something to buy to keep their cars useful.
