I'd be very surprised if there is a 'mint' SE or S2 (but then again one sold just the other day) having said that I'd have thought that the problems you list for this car would have brought the price down somewhat! The price reflects the mileage rather than the bodywork but despite the low mileage if the bodywork and hood are deteriorating then what does this say about the way the mechanicals (which are just as old) have been maintained? Did you see sufficient paper work, view the engine bay and/or get to drive it to sufficiently to engender any confidence?
Decisions, decisions.
I think you sum up the issue perfectly in your comment '...... keep reminding myself that it is [a] 20 years old' car.

Did you check out the clutch on that car? I know someone on LEC that has checked out that car and suspected that the clutch was on the way out.

No I didn't drive it to be honest, I just felt that I wanted something a little tidier, silly things like the exhaust sitting out of centre where it exits at the rear, chips in the paintwork under the bonnet, probably caused by a not very careful mechanic and the red lettering for Lotus was wearing away on the engine block, I expected better for a £35k car.
I think I was spoilt looking at all the lovely Elans at the Lotus Festival a couple of weeks ago so I will pop over to Allon Whites on Friday to check out the yellow one they have which has some great history and maybe look at another couple before diving in but it would be nice to buy from a LEC member with great history and upgrades rather than a garage that doesn't specialise in Lotus's.
Cheers,

The red one seems like a nice car, insurers are writing off cars for a scratch these days, if the car is running fine then the cat c marker shouldn't be a problem. As for the other one....If you buy Max Power magazine this is you're type of traffic!.

Probably slugs, snails and tadpoles
That is probably one of the worst Elan's for styling I've ever seen

the red one does look nice (if my garage was complete, i would go and have a look at it), but i put these two cars on here because they weren't under the cars section on ebay, they were in the parts section, so they could easily be missed by interested people.
as for max power, i don't buy it as i don't wear a baseball cap the wrong way round, nor do i end every sentence with 'innit'.

That looks lovely - it'll make a really good buy for someone. All they have to do is keep it that way.

Its not yours is it?!
Doesn't seem to be selling. An azure blue? one with less miles was up for 7.5k a week or two ago but went pretty fast. Looked nice. I was in the market a little late

Hmm, looks okay in the pictures (for the price) - but a couple of points worth noting:-
Cat D shouldn't be a big worry, but will possibly affect future values
Seller doesn't know much about the car (or probably elans in general)
It is listed as an Elan (with 123bhp) which suggests an NA, but the interior photo shows a digital clock, and the rear photo shows an SE badge - no engine bay pic to try and prove it either way.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

You're right! But when I first viewed the photos, the top bit was obscured and I couldn't see the guages, though!
