This made me think of your project, Paul:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7966169578&category=33654

before I realized that this was not a marking on the JPS Esprit... *sigh* Should have figured that out by the silver coloring (and the fact that it is listed off of a Europa)...

Looking good, interested to see the final product- as it will certainly be unique.

A bit weird to me to place a plaque announcing championships which are more than 30 years old! :o and don't pertain to the Elan itself at all. :-/

Why not a plaque designating the design awards for the M100 itself, or the "Type 100 Lotus" or with the cat on skates, etc. . . . [smiley=1poke.gif]

Take your point Doug & will think about it, although the whole theme is 30yrs old, guess you youngsters don't remember the JPS specials with the gusto that i do ?, i must be older than i feel ?. If you have any designs you feel suitable please feel free, all will be considered.
One design i did think of, was the JPS Team Lotus logo they used to use on the cars, when i find it i will post pic.

I think I also remember seeing these on the older Elans ???- IIRC. This might be a bit small to replace the one on the dash- I would get some measurements from a seller. You could always make a backing to fill the space of the dash emblem and mount this on top of that to fit.

If you are looking at putting it on there as a nod to Lotus' racing heritage, I don't see the harm in it not really having to do with the M100 and being a couple of years prior to the JPS Esprit, but if you are looking to keep things more in line with current times, I think Doug has a very good point...

Well its been 1 step forward, 2 back this week. Installed all the front frame complete with new radiator & got the clamshell on when the top heatshield came back from platers, got the top & side bolt in but the akward bolt at the front would not thread in, so after an hr trying the options were a) to leave it out, b)remove clamshell & dis-assemble all the front again to see what was stopping bolt going in, c) remove wastegate manifold to see what was stopping bolt going in. After long discusion we decided to take option c) - BIG MISTAKE !. Snapped one of bolts holding lower heatshield on, then snapped 2 studs holding the manifold on, so removed manifold & eventually managed to drill & tap one broken bolt ( 2hrs ), managed to get top stud out with molegrips & stud remover, then the other stud decided to snap at the other end leaving just the threads in the turbo casing , now by this time i was pulling my hair out ( not an easy feat, for those who know me ! ), so that meant removing the turbo as well !. Actually got that off quite easy, without snapping anything, so now were halfway through drilling that out. 8 Hrs hard labour, & its in a lot more bits than when we started the day, & all because i wanted a chromed heatshield !. Makes one wonder sometimes ? [smiley=bonk.gif]

Ah Paul, that sux buddy, but dont let it turn you down, heads up and keep it going. After all its the end result that shall reward you! ;)

As for my piece of advise, if you look at my engine bay its bling-bling allright yet nothing is chromed, just a good thorough brushing polish with same stuff that we use to polish silverware valuables at home.....

Costas

Bought a new top heatshield Costas, as the old one was well knackered, & thought i would have it chromed before i put it on, with a bit of luck should have it all back together tomorow ?. Tell you what though, glad i ain't a mechanic , it would really do my head in, if i did it full time !

Grahame, once we had taken the bonnet off, probably about 1 / 1-1/2 hrs, bearing in mind it was a bit suck it & see, would think trained mechanic would take 3/4 hr, but blacky didn't have a bumper on !
