LOG 35 Announced

Postby EM One Hundred » Wed 24.09.2014, 21:56

Having just returned from Asheville NC and LOG 34 I want to announce that Lotus Colorado (LOCO) will host LOG 35 in Colorado Springs CO August 21-24, 2015.

We have some exciting plans already set and a lot more in the works to make this a great family vacation and Lotus holiday rolled into one. Colorado Springs is a vacation destination for tens of thousands of families each summer making it a perfect LOG destination as well. We are working with the Colorado Springs Conference and Visitors Bureau to provide package or discounted fees for area attractions such as the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Garden of the Gods, the US Olympic training site, the Air Force Academy and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

As far as Lotus specific activities, the big one is a Lotus assault on Pikes Peak, aka “The Mountain”! We will have a special program to be the first cars up the mountain on Sunday morning and while we won’t be setting any Hillclimb records we will be driving with enthusiasm and won’t be behind the little old schoolteacher from Des Moines in her Buick with her foot on the brake going UP the hill.

This will be an affordable LOG. We have a block of rooms at the Colorado Springs Marriott at $119 per night including resort fee items. Many things that are normally extras will be included in the registration and charges for meals and apparel will be reasonable.

For more information on everything including hotel, the panoramic photo location, the track day at Pikes Peak International Raceway and some motivational video on the Hillclimb, go to our website at www.lotusownersgathering.com While we don’t have every item on there yet, we do have a lot and would like you to get your hotel reservations made right away (They are cancellable with no penalty until August 2015) and check back often to find out more.

As John Muir said, “The Mountains are calling and I must go…”

Seeing as y'all arranged a drive up PP on my 60th birthday, I had better start working on a cunning plan...

Does that cunning plan involve encourging a certain lawyer to get his car(s) working??

(and what dates are we saying BOLLECKS to America?)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

The first part of the plan starts with reminiscing about our honeymoon in Sardinia in '83 followed by a conference trip to Colorado Springs in '84.

The second part of the plan involves going through this years holiday pictures from Sardinia and discussing where we might go next year.

The last part of the plan involves not telling the kids.

Sounds super! Close enough to do the trip in Smaug, maybe. Anyway, it's going on the 2015 "wish list" calendar now!

Great! I've always regretted not meeting up with you when I picked up my car in CA all those years ago.

We're onto the third part of the plan - seeing if Sarah can get leave during the Summer holiday.

Oh, and Doug says he'll come if I can fix him up with an Evora. Any ideas?

Dear All:

I'm way ahead of you. The M100 is back on the road and fully licensed and legal. And I am in love with car all over again. While the weather is still nice, I hope to take her out a few more times. But I need to get the turn signals and hazard flashers working before some Bozo in a 4x4 pick-up blows me away.

I am getting over the burnout of tearing down my house and re-building it, starting a family and watching the world come to an end from the comfort of my Lazyboy lounger. I am starting to think about cars again. I am slowly getting the garage in shape.

For LOG35 Asta and I hope to have a couple of cars there.

Geoff-we decided to have the LOG in CSprings knowing you would not be able to stay away. We'll have the guest room ready for you.

I now have help in the garage.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Geoff and any others from far away contemplating attendance at LOG 35,

We are making progress with plans for your visit, with a few surprises in store for you to make the long trip worthwhile. I have had contact with people from Europe and Australia who are making plans and we have indications from a half dozen or so from the UK that they will attend. Besides, Geoff you will need to renew all your acquaintances from your last visit :D We are making arrangements for Clive Chapman and Bob Dance from Classic Team Lotus to join us, and for the American contingent Peter Egan, former Road & Track writer, has indicated he will join us. We are looking into the possibility of Lotus hire car arrangements so an Evora for Doug is not out of the question though Lotus hire cars are awfully thin on the ground so we may have to seek alternative solutions. At least we are listening and working on it.

And Algirdas, we need to see you out and about again, and not in that Dodge Truck! October meeting is the 28th at Micky's so bring your now running car and I will as well.

So make your hotel reservations now as we are committed to "owning" the Marriott for the weekend of August 22-24, 2015. And, for the record, Geoff... Al's guest room is too far away to work for you. Make a reservation here: www.lotusownersgathering.com

Dear Geoff:

Tell Doug I can fix him up with my Dodge Dakota pick-up truck. Its white with peeling paint and has a broken gas gauge. Asta, Aras and I just put in a new starter and it is the only vehicle I have ever owned where the under hood (bonnet) light actually works. But its the diarrhea brown interior with cigarette burns in the seats that makes it a total babe magnet. I can start calling her "Evora" if you think that will help clinch the deal.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

LOG 35 Announced

Postby EM One Hundred » Sat 13.12.2014, 04:34

The LOG 35 committee is proud to announce that our special guest speaker for the Saturday night banquet will be Bobby Unser. A veteran of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Bobby became known as the "King of the Mountain."

He won the sports car division in a Lotus 23 way back in 1964 and the record he set in that win has never been broken. It has stood for over fifty years.
That little Lotus 23 cast a shadow almost as big as the Mountain. Come hear Bobby tell all about this car and other adventures at the Saturday night banquet at LOG 35, August 22, 2015.

If you have never heard Bobby speak, be prepared for a frank, blunt and colorful remembrance of what it was like on the mountain. We promise: you will enjoy his remarks!

Right, our hotel and 'hire' car are all arranged, so it's about time we had a list:

Looks like LOG35 conflicts with taking my youngest off to his first year of College. I love the LEC community but my son wins this round. Have a pint for me and a nice fast run for Smaug!
