removal off S2 door mid panel

Postby petercliffe » Wed 01.10.2014, 20:53

A friend contacted me as had problem removing the door trim as could not remove the oval mid panel on his S2.
I had done this on my old my old SE M100 and these were simply glued in place and just pulled out without much problem.
So I tried this on my new S2 and found similar problem in that while the rear could be pulled away slightly the front was rigidly attached.
We have heard a story they revised the attachment for the S2 but can find no reference on how they did this.
Anyone advise?

If you lift one side, you can slide it out in the direction where you can lift it (where the tape is)
I am not at the car this moment, so sorry i cannot be more exact!

I am still not able to remove, on my car, very rigidly attached at front so is either very well glued or screwed from back although on friends appears to have some play but on both worried that any more force will cause damage. unable to lift back of it enough to see what is problem.

Welcome to LEC! If you put your location in your profile, you may find another member close to you who could help.

When I removed mine, I found the front top and bottom lips behind the door pull were slightly wedged behind the main panel. A gentle lever with a screwdriver helped.

finally got up enough courage to really yank it out and it came free. On my old SE it was rather lose and needed tape to keep it in place. On this it appears oversize at the front and well jammed in plus some glue so really not easy and any further force would have damaged the leather. As appears to be tight on other side wonder if they cut the panels slightly bigger on S2 or used thicker leather?
Anyway thanks for help.
