IMO, the last Donington event was ruined by the venue.
The overflow car park had been leased out making parking a pain.
The lying beggars assured CL that the touring cars would not cause us too much trouble on the Sunday...then cars were backed up all the way to the M1.
I suspect CL told them to get stuffed & I don't blame them.

Castle Combe is usually a great event & free to Lotuses too. It usually alternates between a nice warm day & a rain-fest. I missed this year & recall that last year's was quite warm...so I'm guessing it was a wet one!
Maybe we could make a weekend of this with a Sunday cruise?

I totally agree with Iain about the last Donington - but can't blame CL in any way - they (we?) were shafted by the venue!

This years' Castle Combe was indeed a wet one, and only a few LECers attended (but I still enjoyed meeting up and having a day out!).

If there is enough interest, then I'm fairly sure that more of an 'event' could be formed arround the actual track day - I know of a few who have arranged local B&Bs, and Chippenham isn't that far away (and has the usual assortment of accomodation you'd expect, Travelodge etc)..... oh, and camping is possible at the circuit.

A convoy could be easily accomodated from near J17 or J18 M4 to the circuit - Curry houses and local pubs are plentiful..... if only there was a LEC member who lived nearby to sort out the details and find a route for a nice drive on the Sunday (Pete :poke: ) - I used to know all the 'good' roads round there from my time at Devizes driving school, Beckhampton straight at 130mph was brilliant - but the whole area seems to have now been hit with speed limits & cameras (but there must still be some nice drives)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Well volunteered Dave. Thanks

When you have finished gallivanting around the world perhaps we could sit down with a map book and consider some options, January should give us enough time to plan and get something out for consideration prior to Castle Combe.

Would like to do the classic again next year.

Mark, am I right in thinking you have an Elise now? If so have you still got the élan?

Mark, as a lifelong CL member i'll get our Silverstone tickets. I have know idea what Wella is, do they make spot lights for Rally cars, RS2000s etc ???

Chris, Rambo is dreaming of a Coxster cos he is a closet hairdresser, though thats what he accuses me of, i'm sure we'll see him in a Calypso pink Mazda before long.

as for castle Coombe, too far south for me, preferred Dony so think my annual jolly trips south with be Silverstone only.

Scott, maybe you are thinking of Hella for spotlights. It's Weller for highlights (don't ask me how I now this). ;)

Hi Scott
Yes it's a lovely example and a very good price, if I was in the market for a daily driver it would be tempting.
A friend has a 1990 Mx5 and when parked next to the Elan it looks very dated but 20 years or development has produced a fine car.
I however get as much pleasure from the tinkering and upgrading as I do from the driving so if I were to change it would probably be for something like this :D
