Costas, pop the hood & lets see how you routed the NOS purge tubing.

Maybe I'm missing something, but is the best location for the NOS tank next to the battery? It reminds me of fears from the fuel tank leakage. Is there a chance the conmnections on the nozzle could work lose? It would save trunk/boot space compared to Nitroman's set-up.

I think the flammability of nitrous alone is very low -- remember it's actions come when placed into combustion with other agents.

N2O has about 3 times the volume of oxygen that is present in air. Think of lighting a match in a room, or lighting a fire in your fireplace. I cannot speculate on how much of an affect 3-times the amount of oxygen would have.

I would say a greater danger was the sheer amount of pressure (3000-psi) in the tank. But then again every tank has a burst-disc (metal disc the size of your fingertip made out of thin metal) designed to hold more than 3000-psi, but not enough to allow the tank to explode. Due to a malfunctioning bottle-heater I had this happen in the trunk of my car... in a parking lot with over one-hundred bikers to witness the event! And you thought Shark's nostrils drew attention?!!! It took what seemed like 45-seconds for the tank to empty; a LOUD white cloud exiting the boot all the while. If the tank did explode it would probably not matter whether it was in the boot or right behind you. I have wondered why one must, by law, fill a SCUBA tank submersed in a large vat of water yet may hold a nitrous tank between your legs while doing the same. Ah, the consistency of government regulation.

In any case, N2O will only increase the burn rate of combustion already in progress. At the dentist's office this stuff is called laughing-gas & you breath it (although the stuff they put in cars purposely has enough sulphur in it to make you vomit & wish you were dead).

My main worry would be the serviceability of the tank. You have to remove it to fill it. I carry the tools I need in a baggy in the boot. It is an easy job when mounted in the boot. It would depend, where Costas has it, what you have to move & keep out of the way. Also have you had the top down with the nitrous bottle in place? With the remote-bottle-opener resting atop the battery I know the N2O bottle is standing a good 4 or 5 inches inches above that. Does that leave room to store the top?

How big of a nitrous shot are you running? Let me know if you have a misfire (I did just due to the increase of pressure in the cylinder snuffing out the spark) as there are ways to get around this unless it is due to the N2O not being evenly distributed to each cylinder. If the latter is a problem you will know within a few months! Most minor details were fixed today.

With last detail left to be done the covering of the NOS instruments with leather, Sh4rk Project is 99.9% ready.

While I was at DSP Lotus a friend of mine came over with and Elise111s. I saw the wheels, imagined them in black, and asked him if I could try em on. I knew they were of wrong offset but I couldnt resist the temptation since it was a 5 min job.

The wheel looks great (?) on the Elan but the offset is terrible, the car looks like a 4x4 offroad so that thought is history and I am still on the hunt for 17" wheels for everyday use since I want the 16" S2 wheels for track use only.

Anyways thats how they look...

Image

Image

Now we are in business! These are the wheels (rims) I posted about 6 months ago that fit Elan almost perfectly with an offset of 50 I think. They are TOORA T690 17" and off course in Sh4rk's case are gonna be painted black. I would really prefer the original S2 wheels but they are so many time "fixed" (Greek roads are of inferior quality than British or USA and damage the wheels a lot) that can take no more fixing and I want to use them strictly for track days. So what do you think about em?

Engine smoothing finished, I drove 1000km at less than 4000rpm in under 1 week!!!

Boost was increased today from 0.5 to 0.8bar as a first step and now I go up to 6500rpm.

Drove tha Sh4rk on those settings and the feeling is unbelievable. After 3600rpm the RPM needle simply goes madly fast to 6500, I hardly am fast enough to switch gears before it hits the 7000rpm mark, am I getting old? I also drove Sh4rk on a curly road for 50km and the stability, grip and road handling has increased beyond any expectation. Grin all over my face! ;D

Wednsday I am increasing boost to 0.95-1.00bar, Thursday I am gonna dyno at 1.1bar, no NOS included. I cant wait to see how its gonna feel like at 1.1bar.

No use of Nitro yet, I act like its not installed, when I am through with turbo boost setting will test the Nitro, but I want to check the car first for a couple of weeks with no NOS used.

At a visit on our local racing circuit this past weekend, Dimitris (who has installed Quaife too) has achieved a steadily lapping of 1.13.0 - 1.14.0 Up to now his best lap was 1.16.8. but with the use of semi-slick tyres. The quaife helped him to decrease his lap time by 3+ secs even though he wasnt using his semi-slick tyres and not just as a best lap time but as an average time. To get an idea, a Subaru Impreza STI 2.5 at 400hp of a friend of mine managed a best time of 13.5 just a week ago at the same circuit....

Costas.

Sh4rk Dynoed today 276hp with 33.5kgm torgue without the use of NOS!!! Of course with the use of the 50hp NOS shot the horsepower climbs to 325hp!!! All diagramms were unbelievably healthy!

Aim was 300, we accomplished 325hp, I am in Heaven!

The feeling at 1.1 bar Sh4rk's acceleration especially at 5500-7000rpm is not possible to be described with words.

I shall scan and post diagrams and details tommorow!
