It was first registered in Aungust 1992 (5th), so has an age related prefix....

..... at that time DVLA were selling their 'Cherished' numbers only for 'A' registrations, and then each year when the 'new' prefix came out, for a limited set of numbers (1-20,30,40,50,100,200,999 etc) for that particular prefix - they didn't allow people to buy any plates other than those, so if you didn't get your plate by 31st July, you couldn't buy it.

That has now changed, and all are now availlable (unless sold!).

As such, this plate would have been in the DVLA 'Cherished Numbers', and *could* have been on since new (if the original owner purchased it), or bought since they filled up the back catalogue and placed on the car.

It certainly wouldn't just be there by good luck - the bloody government gets money wherever it can!!!!

Oh, and it was a fair few years previous to then that they stopped issueing single digit numbers on plates (when 'A' prefix came out) - as that's when they realised that there was cash to be made from vain motorists (like me  )

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Doesnt look very "restorable" to me... and im not too sure if there's anything there that can be used as a spare for another car.

Its been around a while .. Its close to South west lotus ( may have been a PX out) .
What i would not be happy with it the 'moving it out of storage" before you come to view.

I would want to hear the car from cold . Its less than 100 miles away from me ( but unfortunately i am away for a month on friday or i would have come to view it with you).

One of the few SE Turbos with only 150BHP (or 123 BHP depending which bit of the advert you read). Last belt change at 87k suggests a loooooooong time ago unless 20% of the milage was done in the last couple of years.

But all that just means the dealer doesn't know what they're selling and the last owner didn't take as much care as the previous 2. Looks tidy enough in the pics, so if it holds up to close scrutiny on site, could be OK. Bear in mind that SWLC will probably charge well over £500 for the C service that's obviously overdue - and that's if they don't find anything wrong (my last C was £1470 although that included some fiddling to get it through the MOT emissions).

I thought the same about the belts to be honest. Its a bit too far for me to travel really, but thought I would ask if anyone had been to see it.

Yes, I agree. But what intrigues me is that the faults he lists as reasons for the lack of MoT, they are all so minor, more so when you consider the expense already incurred in replacing the cam belts, servicing and cooling system works. It's kind of like running the 100mtrs hurdles and stopping at the last fence. Why???

It could be quite innocent, ran out of time money etc but it doesn't allay suspicions, that said it does look like a good buy/risk.

If its not a Lotus Elan than don't describe it as such. No one would advertise a VW Tourag as a "Porsche Cayenne(Volkswagen Version) with a different nose and rear lights" AAARGH!
