http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-LHD-LOTU ... SS:GB:3160If its not a Lotus Elan than don't describe it as such. No one would advertise a VW Tourag as a "Porsche Cayenne S (Volkswagen Version) with a different engine, front, interior switches and rear lights" AAARGH!

There seems to be a fair bit of bidding going on for it. Where these ever available in the UK?

Well why pay a fortune for one of those from the rip-off merchants in Norfolk when you can get a "better" one from Japan?
Anyway it HAS to be a Lotus - it says so on the seats and the bonnet!
And look how well it must handle - I've never seen an Elan that low, so it's got to be better, innit?
Such a shame there are no pics of the "improved" dials, switches and engine.
Also a shame that the MoT expired 2 months ago.

I thought that as well but bottled out of posting it in case it made me inadvertently look daft (I don't mind looking daft on purpose)!

67000km sounds like about time for a timing belt change, i suppose when the seller got the quote he decided to sell the car.
im surprised on the bidding value. never though a kia would be worth more than a real elan.

The engine is from Kia, not the Isuzu that Lotus used. Cam belts don't need to be change like the M100. The entire body, chassis and suspension is all from the last M100 tooling but the brakes are more modern. It is basically an M100 with a different drive-train and better brakes. The tail lights were done because there weren't enough original Renault lamps available to meet the build order.
They were only available for purchase in Korea and you can't order any parts without a functional VIN. I got a few parts from KIA through a consolidator as samples but KIA closed that access as soon as they realized I didn't have a Vigato.
After the last KIA version was made, the tooling and excess parts went back to Lotus UK.

Doesn't matter if its LHD or RHD, It could still be imported from Japan, doesn't mean it was built there, you could import a LHD Peugeot from Japan, it would still have been made in France, Sais que je veux dire?.

Check the feedback comments!, one apt example.... "very poor discription of vehicle, very dishonest group of people". Buyer Beware indeed!.

It surprises me that it is currently £3k with (iirc) 7 bidders and a week to go, given that within our forum there are folks, trying to sell what are probably better & more legitimate cars, who don't seem to receive that much interest.

We're all thinking it so I'll say it...... "He's got some of his mates to bid on it to drive the price up"
Anyway I've decided to copy his great idea and I reckon I can pick up a Kia Rio for about £250. Pop a Lotus badge on the bonnet, maybe some of my spare wheels, a couple of switches and an old Lotus gear knob and I'll advertise it as a Lotus and probably clear £3k. What do you guys think?

I don't see many cars for sale on this forum at the minute.

Perhaps you're right but maybe they get picked up quickly, it certainly feels as though there is a throughput of cars.
