The long waited Dyno day has come at last.

During the past 2 weeks I discussed with Greg what our targets should be and after long talking we set these targets for the Dyno session.

Targets

1. Check and adjust proper fuelling since the TOMCO fuels injectors havent been used-tested before at least by DSP.
2. Check differences with previous dyno run 2 months ago, and for doing so we would have a dynorun at 1.18 bar boost so as to see what the fresh engine mods acomplished
3. Reassure that we have proper fuelling for running 1.6 bar with simultanous use of 75hp NOS.
4. Manage a 325hp dynorun at 1.6bar so as to acomplish 400+hp with the use of NOS at next dyno session
5. Check engine meters, especially pyrometer, we dont want that near 900 degrees mark, no matter what.
6. Examine the dynograms and decide if we should go for 8000rpm with remaping.

We tried to prevent any possible damage to the engine by being cautious and doing 3 weeks all kind tests. We thought we checked every single detail..... except one.

On the way to do the Dynoruns Greg turns to me and says "OMG, I am gonna shoot myself!" I asked him why and he said "I just hope that the Manual Boost Valve allows boost pressure of 1.6bar..." :o

I Videotaped all the dynossesions and will do some videoclips of it ;) I also will scan all the dynograms, but I dunno if I can make it tonight, if not I will do so on my return after 7-10 days time.

First Dynorun was at 0.7bar and what a pleasunt result to see all fuelling perfect at 7000rpm.

Then we dynoed at 1.15 to make a comparison with last dynorun 2 months ago, and the result was 286hp Power and 35kgm torgue. A big big big grim was allover Greg's face and mine and excited as we were we set the boost valve half turn loose. The ppl watching the dynorun started to yell for 350hp at 1.6bar and way over 400 with NOS!

Unfortunately no matter how loose the MBV was after that no higher boost pressure was allowed, we removed the MBV just for a sec and we did read Boost pressure over 1.6bar at 4000rpm but didnt go beyond that revs cause we couldnt adjust desired boost pressure.

Results

1. Excellent fuelling, couldnt be better! TOMCO are doing their job.
2. We did manage a noticeable increase in perfomance of 10hp power and 1kgm torgue but the big thing was not "what" but "how" and its a LOT FASTER than before.
3. Fuelling can easily handle 1.6bar pressure with NOS.
4. Will have to wait for another 2 weeks and a replacing MBV. Greg threw a couple of more ideas on the way back, but thats anoher story.
5. P E R F E C T! all readings were beyond my expectations, the pyrometer just touched 700 and that proved of the pottentials increasing power ahead.
6. A definatelly NO comes here, since as shown on Dynograms the HP line starts to drop after 6500rpm so a further increase in RPM will acompish nothing at all.

Apologies for the big post, but how else could I describe it?

I shall try to post Videos and Dynograms until tommorow morning, no promises.

Sh4rk will stay at DSP Lotus for the time I will be abroad and Greg will do everything needed to go for a 1.6bar dynorun as soon as I return.

Costas

Took me a couple of hours, but the Dyno Video is ready! Originally 100MB in size but I shrunk it again and again to 7.5MB to make it Downloadable for slow connection users, but the quality now is very low compared to original size clip.

Anyways, thats the link to it!

http://www.sh4rk.gr/Dynorun01.wmv

Enjoy!

Cya all in about 2 weeks time....

Costas

PS. Almost forgot it....
Today I recieved this email about the Black Lotus Badge

"Dear Costas,
I'm sorry -- we are out of stock at the moment. It may be another 3 months before we have new stock in.
Many thanks.
Lee
LEE CHAPMAN RACING, LLC"
I take my hat off to Costas and his devout crew of mechanics who have pulled off this transformation - simply brilliant :D

It would be really nice to see a set of raw on road performace figures once she's allowed a full head of NOS steam [smiley=sit_and_spin.gif]
Must be a good chance that a tuning auto mag will want to do some tests - surely?

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun showing a clean pair of heals to virtually anything else on the road ;D

I must admit to copying Costas's "bull-snort" nitrous purge system. I received the base kit and painted it with under-hood clear so it will never corrode. The shop in Jacksonville has several feet of polished stainless purge line under order & when they receive it I will take the car down there for them to do the install & "top me up" with the good-stuff again. Such a pain going over to Stone Mountain just for a nitrous refill here in Atlanta. Also have a really cool Chrome button to activate the nitrous purge. All in all, it should turn out very nicely.

Tony & Dave Thank You very much...

Today I drove Sh4rk at +1.5bar Boost pressure and I shall say just this:
I ve driven or co-driven many fast cars from a +500hp Esprit to a +240hp Elise. Today it was the first time in my life I got seriously scared.... [smiley=scared.gif] words cant explain it, just wait for the future videos.

Costas

PS. Hey, it occured to me the other day that I didn't remember reading about your ECU situation.

It seems that I must have missed it somewhere along the way, but what are you using for timing/fuel management for this thing? 1.5bar isn't exactly a stock type of a job....

Thank God, Surgery went all good, and after 5 days laying in bed at the Hospital and another 5 days laying in bed at home, I finally am up, alive and kicking.

Back in business

To solve the problem with Boost pressure we installed a solenoid (sp?) which is adjusted to give an additional 0.3-0.4 boost pressure over the one set by the Manual Boost Valve. So now we have set the MBV to 1.0bar (about 260hp) and when in need for more I switch to +1.3bar which is extreme for daily use.

If I want max set up, I just let the MBV to 1.2bar and switch to +1.5bar.

All these, still without the use of NOS.

The Solenoid
Image

Close up
Image

Now that the boost pressure was over 1.0 bar at a constant basis the stock Boost Pressure Indicator was out of business. So, to match the NOS instruments as well we replaced the Boost Gauge and since we did that, one thing to another, we replaced all 3 stoc gauges but instead of Battery indicator I prefered Oil temperature.

So, this is it...

Image
....what are you using for timing/fuel management for this thing? 1.5bar isn't exactly a stock type of a job....
I remapped the engine and for what I know the engine is self mapping fuelling and according to my dynograms fuelling was healthy perfect at all RPM, we were extremely cautious on that area. I also added 500cc Rotary Fuel Injectors by TOMCO.

Does that help?

The Perfomance Car Magazine FasteR is going to test run Sh4rk this week starting on Monday with dynoruns at 1.5bar boost pressure while also do all sorta of "GPS V-Box III" runs, thus 0-60, 0-100, 0-160, top speed, quarter mile, repriz acceleration at several gears and speeds, breaking etc.

Video Camera is charged up!
