says in the description it was a project, sounds reasonable to assume it changed colour in the process ?

Hi Gazza,
Agreed and this S2 is one of them. I recall that it last came up for sale in about 2010 and it 'sold' two or three time on eBay and it was marketed using the Gordon Banks claim to fame. It also had a number of 'faults' then but the description of the 'damage' in this advert is more detail than previously provided. However, as we all know, the lack of new parts and the reluctance for insurance companies to use second hand parts is resulting in more Elan's being placed on the Cat C register.
Hope this helps?
regards
John

Did the factory add black to the options or have owners changed them? I was at the factory when they announced the development of the Elise and plans to build the S2 out of the bits still lying around the factory. Shortly after I got sent the original S2 brochure and Prices, Options and Accessories leaflet. They said the Elise would be under £20k and the S2 was around £26k on the road so I decided to wait for an Elise but still kept the brochure.

Black is not on offer at that time, just the usual CR, BRG, MW & NM. (Always NM, not sure where NMY has come from)
I must admit there's a couple of metallic colours added to the S2 range that I'd spray black, but I'm sure the ladies love them.

Fling a bit further back and I've got a booklet from The Lotus Show at Alexandra Palace, Wood Green - entry was free but booklet cost 1/- (for the youngsters that's one shilling = 5p).
Probably around 1970 because I was running a de-badged Lotus 6 with Ford 1172cc sidevalve engine as a 'Ford 10 Special' on the advice of my insurance broker ('Student Engineer' and 'Lotus' are incompatible terms) and I looked very enviously at the Lotus 7 Series 3 with Cortina GT engine. That came in component form, to avoid Purchase Tax, and cost £777. Only took a weekend to build too!
Others in the range were Europa S2 £1667 (inc PT); Plus 2S £2375 (inc PT) & Elan S4 Component form £1353 or Fully Built (with PT) £1853. There's a 7 Series 2 on Autotrader at the moment for £27k, so what price a Series 3 now?

This one is on ebay. Nice colour combination but

needs a new bonnet. NACA ducts there! What's that all about? How does the air that goes in get out? Obviously for show and not function.
... and ad' avoids stating mileage so probably high, or am I just a cynic?

Mileage is about £75k: check out the photo of the dash. But it would help if it was stated.

that car has been listen time and time again over the past few months, started off getting listed at £5k if i remember correctly. I actually like the colour scheme, but i agree the bonnet has been completely ruined.
