D19 TUS - Elan SE (SOLD)

Postby Artaban » Thu 13.08.2015, 11:49

Summary

MOT to 23.06.2017, Current Mileage circa 145,000, New water pump summer 2014; cambelt December 2016. Club Lotus Agreed Value April 17 - £15,000. Full service July 2015 and again June 2016. I purchased the car 30.01.2010 and the work listed below has been carried out under my ownership. The head gasket was done by a previous owner in 2006 and a compression test last year revealed all cylinders within a few PSI of each other. Level of CO on recent MOT was 1.6% (limit is 3.5%)

Excluding items/services bought for cash (estimated at £2,500) I have a folder of receipts totalling just under £20k for work I have done since I took ownership of the car 6 years ago. Bear in mind this car was a nice example when I bought it so the money has not been spent doing up a dog of a car.

As it is difficult to gauge the price I am open to offers and I'll probably take the best offer I get over the weekend at Brands. It'll be on the PNM stand if anyone wants to have a look at it and see the folder of receipts etc.

Thanks.

Andy

Andy,

Whilst I'd love to have it, I can't justify another one of this standard!

But to add to the advert, I have known this car for a long time, and know what was done by the previous owner....

... it's a great car and ready to jump into and drive away.

I have followed the work done by the present owner, and would find it hard to find fault anywhere - well worth a look if you're in the market for a lovely example.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Thanks for the comments. I knew it had a new hood at some point I just don't know when as its not in the history (chunk of history lost by previous owner). The hood does have a Trim Tech label on it and the seals are in good condition although I didn't realise it was an S2 hood. I think the drive down from Chester may well test it out as I tend not to drive the car in the rain if I can help it. Its not that I'm precious about the car its just much more enjoyable to drive with the top down.
Hopefully there will be some more M100's for sale on the weekend and potential buyers will be able to see whats around for the money. I'm realistic about its value but that doesn't mean I'll give it away. With a real classic car like an E-type Jag you'll get back pound for pound what you spend on it. A Lotus?...perhaps 25-30% plus what you paid for the car. It all depends if someone just wants to get in it and enjoy driving it or go for the full Lotus experience of spending most weekends surrounded by bits of car wondering why on earth they designed it like that and nursing skinned knuckles.
Its been great fun but I never did get to do my drive down through Italy.

Thanks for your txt earlier Andy - this prompted me to reset my old forum account.
It reminds me I haven't logged in since end 2008, it seems that I sold my Elan (B8 RBD) as far back as 2009 - perhaps a forum member owns it now?

Your price seems reasonable considering what you have done, and if it were a little less I would probably beat a path to your door.

Good luck with the sale I shall be keeping an eye on this.

Sorry, didn't mean it to be a secret.
The advice I received was to pitch it somewhere between £10-£15k so I have said I will accept the first offer over £10k.This is based on the fact that the car, when I bought it, was similar in condition to ones being offered at £6k now. So I've gone with the price for the car + 25% of what I've spent on it; so £10K. I think that is reasonable bearing in mind the hundreds of hours I've also put into the car at zero cost and the parts I've managed to pick up at bargain prices. I've been fortunate enough to do whatever work was needed on the car as soon as it needed doing and not worry too much about the cost and any new owner will have some peace of mind knowing that the bulk of the expensive stuff has been done.

As we all know the market dictates the price so it will be interesting to see if the market wants to buy it. If not then maybe that drive through Italy will be possible. :-D

Just had the car back from a thorough Waxoyl treatment at PNM's. I know its August but Waxoyl runs better in the summer and with the car up on a proper ramp Pete was able to get into all the box sections of the chassis. Hoping to get to Oulton Park sometime on the weekend so may see a few of you there.

A difficult decision but its time to make the effort again to sell my car. I've amended the details in the various posts above to include the work I've done on it since Brands Hatch last year. I've also just fitted BCN's gear cables and short shift kit and I've had the suspension geometry checked and adjusted as it is now 8 months after the full suspension rebuild. I have to say the car has never felt better with everything spot on.

The number plate (D19 TUS) is included though I won't make a big thing of it being a personalised plate. After a few beers, in dim light while squinting through the Mrs reading glasses at 50 yards it could read D LOTUS. I wonder who has D10 TUS?

As I'd spent a small fortune on it I was looking for any offers above £10k last year but now looking at £8,250. If someone is looking for a car to just jump in and drive with all the major expenses covered in the past 6 years and all the mods worth having then this is for you. I'll also get it serviced and MOT'd for the new owner.

Happy to post further pics if required.

I think I've regretted selling every decent car I've had. From my very first Lotus Elan+2S/130 to the two Ferrari's I had 10 years ago. They have to be the biggest regret because at the time I was struggling to get £30k each for them and now, ones in the same condition, are over £100K. Thats what a depressed investment market does for the classic car world. Wouldn't it be nice if the M100 did the same.
Andy

Can you guess the Ferrari models I had?

Bottom one I think is easy: F550 Maranello. Lovely car; my favourite V12.

Top one is harder, but I'm picking F456. Am I right?
