Custom Rear Hubs - Run 2

PMs are now down from 200 to under 50. Those are the 50 important ones, but I couldn't even read them until I cleared out the backlog and I had to make sure I wasn't deleting important info. VAT return submitted yesterday Other stuff is under control. Life is almost back to normal, although sadly summer has gone. I should have all the PMs responded to by the end of the day, have to take the rest of the day off to empty our loft (moving house too) before it gets sprayed tomorrow, but will be back to work this evening once kids are to bed.

Here's where I've got to with the hubs:

1. johanvanboven - sent to friend at guest house with UPS, confirmed received
2. LotusEnthusiast - shipping as soon as I get phone number
3. B_land - sent via UPS 1Z 581 00E 68 9768 8752, confirmed receipt above
4. Jon - confirmed receipt
5/6. Algirdas - sent via UPS tracking no 1Z 577 6W1 04 9441 7740, notified
7. ccb056 - shipping as soon as I get phone number
8. sheprob - sent via UPS tracking no 1Z 577 6W1 68 9889 6347, haven't yet notified personally or checked POD
9. Nick Holland - Paid in Full via SVS site. Delivery details confirmed via SVS site.
10. Rambo - collection in person
11. ab2cv - collection in person
12. DeanG - pending phone call to work out whats gone on. WILL MAKE INTERNATIONAL CALL TONIGHT

I will post up a new thread about adjustments to the next set for PNM compatibility shortly also.

Just in case you'd forgotten/hadn't seen/lost in your pile, there's only on f in Geof Smith was requesting the engineering drawings for the custom hubs in order to assess compatibility with the PMN rear brake kits....since I'm interested in the latter (and now have my lovely hubs installed) I thought it might be worth giving you a nudge....

Have just spoken with DeanG on the phone and he has confirmed he did not ever send a payment. He doesn't seem to want them either; he was more than happy to pay if there was a compulsion but I told him it was no problem as others are interested.

So there are a set up for grabs. First come, first served is usual rule - however, I think Saltire, followed by Paul Alexander, followed by Tuga112 should have first refusal as interest is marked above, and have contacted to advise. Will respectfully ask these guys get 1 week to confirm and if nothing heard, they can go to whoever posts below first.

I feel your pain sir. We "bought" our new house last February but it won't be built until next March. You still have to pay for it and you have to rent in between. And we still haven't sold our house. Its agony....

Also, don't worry, we can produce more of these. Going to start talking to Geoff and others associated about how we can improve the design for PNM which is what they want, and Hi-Spec rear has always been my final goal. So its no major drama if you can't do it this time around, its not like we can't ever make them again, we could make even 1-2 sets if need be but always mindful of cost....

I got something not quite right in the passenger side wheel, theres grease all over. not sure where it came from but im afraid of the bill. also. may as well wait for the refined high spec run. even tho i have no intentions to install high specs. its always better to have all the options open

Couple of questions:

What is the part number of the inner tapered roller bearing?
What is the part number of the outer tapered roller bearing?
Are these identical to the ones used with the OEM system (EG Timken SET1 and SET8)?
What is the part number of the grease seal?
Since these are tapered roller bearings, and not sealed bearings, they need to be packed with grease, correct? Any recommended grease to use?

FYI, bought two sets of BREMBO 08447530 {#25098, 90008005} on clearance on Rock-Auto for ridiculously low price.
These are 1989 Pontiac Lemans 1.6L 98cid L4 Non-Vented (Solid) Front Rotors (Discs)

Taking a closer look at these hubs now. I can confirm the Timken SET1 and SET8 should work. Still looking into the seal.

It appears that one of them was overbored .001" to .002" resulting in a loose bearing race.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Jeemy, do you have a spare hub you could send my way?

No, No and again NO.. Wrong product . Loctite make 660 Quick Metal to fit bearings in slightly oversize housing. Made for the job and works a treat.

While I'd be receptive to using products like this on old and worn equipment, these hubs are brand new, and in my opinion should have been fabricated to better tolerances than this.

I'd rather replace the hub with a proper one, than use loctite.

A new hub is being sent to Christian/Eddie Borchert. I'm going to measure them up first (I have 4 here, 2 for Allan and 2 spare) to try to get to the bottom of this.

Christian, am I right in saying that you chose to have these without bearings? One person did. I don't know if thats connected.

Hi Jamie, could you let me know when you post the hubs and I'll let the garage know to expect them? (Going straight to Craig Moncrieff Cars in South Gyle). Looking forward to getting them on the car along with some nice new rear calipers from PNM
