Convertable top color

has anyone made the top in a color other than black? I was wondering how a tan top might look on the car.

Convertible tops should be black. Except for my late lamented Boxster RS60, which had silver bodywork and a terracotta red top. Even that was marginal.

Red M100 with a beige? roof on 101 around Palo Alto heading south in the morning and north in the evening.
See it quite regularly but never when I'm in mine - (Maybe I can't see over the central divide then)

Was beige an optional hood color? Only one I've ever seen not black.

Any pictures of this?

Don't think I'd ever buy an M100 if it didn't have a black hood. However what you do is totally up to you but bear in mind you may have trouble selling the car later.

I think you're all being a bit harsh, potential hood colour really depends on the colour of your paint job, Having a white car there are several colours that might work - red, blue, green, black - it rather depends on how your interior is done.

That said, I agree tan would struggle to set my pulse racing on any colour lotus ever painted their cars. Maybe if they'd used s**t Brown ......

S2 was offered with a Blue Coloured Hood option for £110 when first announced. They later added more paint colours but not sure if any other hood colour was ever added.

Seen a blue hood on Pacific Blue S2 and also on Norfolk Mustard S2 - and was surprised to find I liked blue better than black on NM.
Thought blue suited Pacific Blue so much that I now have a blue S2 hood on my Pacific Blue SE.

Not sure about tan though....

I still think a tan top would look good. How many of us would like a tan/oatmeal interior instead of black?

For Mr. Yuk, I offer this photo. The top has lasted for 45 years since it was put on. Tan is the only color and black would never due.

Agree, on that machine it must be tan. On a red car if the interior is tan or camel the top compliments it.
If I had a camel interior I would go for a tan top.

What color were you thinking of putting a tan top on? I hope not Yellow.

Ha ha Crayford Conversions ... that takes me back. When we raced 1000cc Minis in the 70's one of our helpers bought a Crayford Mini to replace a Cooper S he had 'reverse parked' at high speed into an oak tree. We'd done a rather pokey Stage 2 S engine for him on his Cooper so the whole front subframe and tuned engine went onto the Crayford along with 5 1/2 J Minilites and grippy Avon tyres. Not one of the best ideas as the shell was so flexi without a roof that the doors sprung open if you cornered hard. Engineering quick fix was a bungy strap behind the front seats from one door pocket, across the car, to the other pocket to keep the doors shut. Roof leaked like a sieve so carpets out and bungs out of the floor so water had a way out was the quick fix on that.. everything creaked and rattled on it so that didn't make it any noisier ...oh, happy days ....

Our M100 is red. I would liked to have had a blue or green one. I remember my first Europa with black interior. I wanted oatmeal. On the 2nd Europa I got oatmeal.
The interior of that Mercedes is black but the top is tan.

I have blue hoods on two of my S2's (Palicio and Mauritus Blue) and they look good so it depends on the colour if the car tbh
