L@@K!!!
1994 Lotus Elan S2 NO. 159 Track Car Project or Repair

It has a few wounds from a little lift off oversteer incident, which are indicated in the pictures, so will need a decent fibreglass repair.
The engine, being Izuzu is running very well but the turbo has expired (constantly running above 7000rpm without a problem

M100 S2 no 159 medina green... m100 sp.
this vehicle has sustained serious accident damage to the front end all the way back to the bulkhead , including a dashbord change..
the front has been replaced without decent alining 1 inch gap between bumper and top clam.the engine bay is a sorry mess of badly sanded filler and grafted from a red car , which had not been sanded down properly so the paint was flaking off . the slam panel sticker is from a usa model ..the light pods were out of line and rubbing the paint off. there were 3 different colours of green paint on the front end(and red underneath). no lip spoiler, paint in the grills. silicon bathroom type used as adeshive on the wings x2 , a bulge in the driverside wing. both door gaps unbeliveably bad and the driver door drops by 1.5" upon opening..
the interior has had a dashboard change with mk1 fan assembly switches and no factory fitted alarm.. the hood is out of shape and the rubbers are average.
the boot has had some work to it , and a new rear light has been fitted , the bumper is miss fitted. the service book has pages 72 - 82 missing ( thats the pdi page , the vin page ) and the book does not tally with the paperwork.. it has 2 new wheels on the rear , which i guess is from where the front end has taken such a wack , they fitted them to the rear (ohh how that fooled me ) i didn't even drive it .. i had wasted enough time already..
this car is bad ... from the look of it , it has had a front and rear shunt and may well have been writtern off .... unfortunatly it has been put back on the road ... this is the sort off car the new VIC will protect us from...

i would not normaly unleash such a barage of information as i know what trouble it usually gets us into ..
however i did ask the seller "before i leave to drive 400 miles (round trip) for this car , is there anything you need to tell me as i don't want to get there and be really pissed off that its not the car you discribed"

and thus it was not so hence this...

newbies ...if you are going to buy an elan , try a well trusted dealer , or willb or mikey or infact anyone on here ... that is not going to totaly mislead you ..

The sad thing is that the advert reads like it could be a good buy for someone (and a low start price has already attracted a bid) intending to do it up for the summer. :(

The really sad thing is that it will soak up more money than most can throw at it, and it'll still be a dog (It'll always be a previously written-off car). :( :(

Even sadder still is that someone may well be wearing their rose-tinted glasses when they go to pick it up, and still drive away with the thing - maybe leaving them with a bad impression of Lotus, Elans, and their owners :( :( :(

On the plus side, it may be worth buying it, getting the wheels & rear light units delivered, and have the rest taken straight to the crusher :?

yeah i agree .
Its kind of landed where it should be though . Years ago it was a dog at a premium price . now its a track slag ... if it stays as just a bit of fun then fair enough .
Its too obvious that its a wrecker ... nobody in their right mind would seriously think of restoring it ( that is unless they buy it blind) then they will onlyrealise what they have done when they pick it up ..

those small pictures make it impossible to see its true colours ( quite literally ) .

Best thing to do with it would be to sell the plate, stick a set of 17" wheels on it (that I've got in my shed), swap the rear lights for a set of anything-which-fits-the-gap-at-the-back, and then drive it to Baku to watch the Azerbaijan GP......

...... I wonder if anyone would be stupid enough to do that sort of thing.........

Mark,

The only problem is getting the 'Banger Rally' organiser to accept that the car only cost the maximum of the allowed £200......

.... hence the change of wheels to get the 'car' price down ;-)

I'm sure that an Elan would be pretty good on the unmade roads to Kyrgyzstan

Currently sitting at £1200 and not likely to go much higher if anyones got any sense. Get it for £1250, Flog the S2 wheels for £1500 on E Bay so the car has cost you minus £250. Get a set of 15" SE wheels, assuming they fit over the calipers, for £250 and its cost you nothing. Still got £200 to play with to make sure it makes the trip to Clemopinkoasterbyan. Job done ;-)

What could possibly go wrong ?

Mark,

I already have a set of 17" wheels which were on the red one when we got it (with good tyres) so that bit is sorted! (as well as a set of OZ 15" ones)....

...I'm watching with (some) interest - at least with my plan it would have one final 'last hurrah', and never be inflicted upon UK roads to an unsuspecting purchaser.

But seeing as the routes Clemo tends to plan includes roads (which aren't roads at all) with some 'slight undulations/ruts I don't know how far it would get - but it would make for an interesting trip for as far as it goes.......

Hang on, I realise that my car has been subject to insurance write off and I've spent a packet getting it back to where it should be (though less than I might of without Dave's largess!) and its value might be a bit compromised but to suggest that former write offs are 'dogs' is a bit harsh!
