Who could forget
I hope the MX5 forums are benefitting from Benky's interior design skills

"very quick spins its wheels at 60 mph in the wet without trying picks up speed like a little race horse.
smiles per miles"
Never known a race horse spin its wheels at 60 mph

Or an Elan for that matter. Unless it's driven by Stevo

This is the car that sat in a garden in Fife most of last year, I'm sure a couple of people from LEC went and had a look at it, It was for sale for a fair while. I think whoever is selling has not had it very long as it has only recently dissapeared from the garden where it was parked, either that or the owner has moved to Grimsby!.

I think he's telling us that in the ad, so he's not trying to hide anything

Bidding looks well dodgy
18 bids by the same person within the 1st half hour of posting the advert taking it from £55-£580 (mates round for a few beers ?) Already stated he/she is looking for £5k

Is it just me or does anyone else thinks the bidding pattern looks a bit odd with nearly 6 of the 7 days still to run. Over to you Detective Pink

PS just looked at the auto bids and it looks even odder

We try to help fellow enthusiasts on here Les , not make snidey comments, so you think "he's telling us that in the ad"?, pray tell where it says he drove it 220 miles from Scotland because he just bought it?, I think you will find there are at least a couple of pertinent things that are not in the ad, like last change of keeper 2014 so if he just bought it its not in his name , I have seen the car and I know a bit more about it than you do, so think about what you are posting as it can often backfire as your post just has.

I must admit the bidding does look odd as someone who was really interested in buying it wouldn't increase their bid by such small amounts each time. The psychology of eBay buying is that people are more likely to bid on popular items than those with only a few bids so this is where your mates can come in and bid in small increments so that its looks like a lot of interest has been generated on the item. Most people won't look at the bidding history.
Also Grimsby to the Scottish border is about 200 miles and to Fife is over 300 miles so either he didn't buy it from Fife (more like Gretna Green) or for the first 100+ miles of the journey it was an absolute dog of a car before he got it repaired on the Scottish border so on the final stretch of the journey (the 220 miles) it didn't miss a beat.
Its obviously been sitting around a bit as the last MOT ran out in June last year. June 2014 to Jan 2016 - 464 miles. Mileage in the past couple of weeks though, since the MOT, is 486. Curiously the MOT from June 2013 shows a mileage of 88,375 and from the MOT in Jan 2016 87,168. No doubt a perfectly simple explanation, someone has obviously driven the car in reverse for the past 1200 miles.
As a car its probably fine but the new buyer shouldn't underestimate the work needed to get a car thats been sitting around for a few years, especially if its been outside in the Northern climate, back to how it should be. I'd be concerned about cambelt, rust, brakes, non standard wheels....actually I wouldn't bother I'd look for a car thats been loved for the past few years; it would be cheaper in the long run.
The thing that made me laugh the most was the agreed value from 12 years ago. It would be better to mention when the last cambelt change was made. Just shows that if you are looking to buy a Lotus avoid the hype type of descriptions and go for the ones with solid facts and documented proof of work done. I do hope it finds a good home though.
Did Lotus ever do a "Performance Upgrade" for the M100?

My wife's just divorced me because I wouldn't open the car door for her!
To be fair I panicked and swam straight for the surface.

The answer is no. Unless the owner thinks that the "picks up speed like a little racehorse" was a factory upgrade

I believe that the BBR 'box of tricks' was approved by Lotus, but fitted by their dealer network at point of sale - but I may be wrong.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Yes, I noticed that discrepancy too last night when I checked the vehicles MOT history. Very odd to say the least. I'm surprised these things aren't picked up by the Dept. Of Transport or the MOT tester. There may well be a valid explanation but it should be up to the owner to account for the lost miles
PS Do race horses have a reverse gear ?

I don't often reply to what said about cars for sale but here goes. I find it amazing that people on here can comment on a cars condition when they haven't even viewed it. Yes it could be a lemon but you shouldn't pass judgement unless you have seen it. Also, many of you seem to think everyone is 'dodgy' in some way. Again, you don't know so stop with the stupid comments. The bidding pattern on ebay crap made me laugh. What do you know about peoples bidding habits? Also, the slight mileage discrepancy is only 2000 miles or so. I would bet you the MOT test centre simply typed in the speedo reading incorrectly. It happens frequently and why 'clock' it just 2000 miles.
Its not my car and I have no interest in buying it by the way. I don't like the look of it either with the non standard wheels, ripped drivers seat and rubbish advert. At the same time, I'm not going to start writing rubbish about it or the seller as I don't know the full facts! It doesn't happen on other forums.
