Does anybody know this one ??

54,000 miles and starting at £4,500. That looks a nice car for somebody, apart from it looks like it's got two N/S mirrors and a speedo in kph but that won't cost a lot to rectify.

Eh ?? Its a link to the same thread ??!!

its about 5 posts above ^ .

Andy2cars mentions it .

I thought he was refering to the one directly above his comment ? The one about incorrect wing mirrors ? He says this one went out to Australia ?

The car directly above that says it went out to Singapore for a few years, its that one I'm interested in.

They may be the same car, the one that sold at auction a couple of weeks ago for £3600.

Think this went through a Bedford car auction last month, now also for sale at a Jag dealer - just don't trust 'em when they've gone through auctions, even if it is a classic car auction.

Ones 1990 no stripe described as going out to Australia, ones 1992 with yellow stripe. The one with stripe went for 3600 as you say at auction and is described as going out to Singapore. Thats the one I'm interested in although appears to have been sorn when it came back for a few years.

The ebay listing says "The car is located at my place of work at RH20 1BQ' implying it's a private sale, but the postcode and phone number just happens to be the same as Arun Ltd www.arunltd.com/

Hello Simon, I have commented on this car, as was mine. It went to Aus, then over to Singapore, it was sorned as previous owner painted it in his garden!. not the best of jobs but fair play to him, I bought it for £3600, sold it for £3500 (after spending best part of £1000 on it) now "dealer" wants £7999.00, unless he/she has spent a couple of grand on it then a trifle trumpy, it has a dodgey past, as someone said was red but now green, engine good, as underneath, but needs a bit spending, be cautious and take off rose tinted glasses, I see you are in Orpington? you are welcome to see ours, as will be selling soon (we are in Dartford)

Well done Dave. I looked through their Online Showroom but it didn't seem to come up but find it does if I put Lotus in the Make. £7,995 looks a bit much but £4,500 for 54k miles Elan sounds much better.

I thought ebay had rules about traders making it obvious ?

It isn't on their general page, but as you say, it comes up when you put the make into the search box.

lotusflasherman wrote:I thought ebay had rules about traders making it obvious ?

They do - but it isn't always easy to prove. The garage offers a 'commission sale' scheme, so I suppose there could be an argument that the garage *may* be advertising it on their site, for a seller (staff member??) who isn't actually the trader (yeah, right!).

The MOT .gov site indicates that the odometer reading was 85,134 at last MOT (04/06/15) - but it states that it is in miles not Km - I don't know if the system allows for Km readings or not, so can't really read too much into that.

£4500 on ebay seems far more reasonable than £8K from a dealer..... but it isn't one I'd be interested in anyway. (There are other cars out there at the moment which I'd far rather buy for the same sort of money, but each to their own).

Clemo, I do not think the one you have highlighted is the same a s the striped one, as striped one had all leather (and in good nick, so they would not have changed)?

Hmmm, 18 hours to go on the auction for the striped one......one or two 'genuine' bidders, but winning bidder has zero feedback.... nowt dodgy to see here. :? :?

But the classified advert for the same car (with a different seller), now has pictures (which are extremely similar to the other advert)... is this a sneaky tactic to make people bid on the auction to get a bargain when compared to the classified price???

Some people do seem to put two adverts up, a classified set price advert and then run an auction. As you say could make the auction all the more appealing compared to the set price.

I'm distrusting peoples actions on ebay more and more these days !!

funny you should mention that ..
I also noticed that the top / bumper bidder has zero feedback and has been registered for less than a month.

so poor old e****e who got bumped to his max bid actually bid £5200 blind ? .

Also Clemo, don't know if it is just how ebay works to protect buyers, but, in the sellers list of feedback e***e is mentioned again as the buyer of another vehicle...... coincidence?

I believe that the previous buyer is a different e*****e, as the feedback score is vastly different.

It is an odd system that they employ which allocates a random "name" to each bidder - the only person who can see the real name is the seller. Each time you enter the fray, a different "random name" is issued, and the first/last digits are irrelevant to the actual name....

...it can be narrowed down by studying the feedback scores, and actual feedback - but for the average punter, there is no way to establish the real bidders' details.

In this case, all i can see from the feedback history is that 3 people have previously bought similar Jaguars, over the past 12 months), and in each case, it appears that English (or the ability to write it correctly) is not their first language..... also that there have been quite a few 'winners' where the buyer feedback is in a similar numeric range, with the slightly higher numbers being the more recent 'wins'.

Now, whilst I would not wish to say that these are shill bids (and even wins), I am not sufficiently convinced in the integrity of the system to purchase from it.

The whole ethos of ebay has changed over the years, and it is very rare that I enter any auction, but i frequently use it as a 'buy it now' shopping place.
