Meow!!! (High quality Cat On Skates)

Postby Giniw » Fri 26.02.2016, 15:27

Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I registered here, and for now as an (ex-)newbie I have mostly read and learned from you all.
So, well, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Anyway, as I have now tinkered a little as most of you, I now have a couple of things to share. Maybe not all exceptional but still a couple of exclusivities if I am not wrong
So, here is the first one!
I have drawn a vector version (SVG) of the Cat On Skates with Inkscape and just uploaded it there: http://www.mirari.fr/Mej7.svg
It's easy to export a raster version at any needed resolution using any SVG editor (Inkskape is free but you can use Adobe Illustrator too for instance), so it will always be a good quality print.

I hope you enjoy it! :)

^^
By the way, it's layered so it's very easy to keep only parts of it over a transparent background just by hiding the layers.

Great stuff.

Fancy adding another layer or two. I had a LEC badge in my car years ago like this and have copied it to go in the old tax disc holder. (Printed on photopaper and then laminated.)

Cat half size (1).jpg

I wanted to use the logo to make wheel centre badges as the Lotus ones had faded, but printed small the 'lotuselancentral.com' was too small and fussy so I modified it to this...
looks like I added some more speed flashes at the cat's rear end too, and emphasised the others ...

Cat half size LE2 .jpg

Laminated photopaper badges last about 6 months before they fade or damp gets under the laminate but as they cost only a few pence to make I don't see that as a problem.. :)

Gareth,
seen Lotus ones but never seen Cat on Skates but having removed the domed alloy discs that used to have Lotus badges on I found the face of the black plastic wheel centre is flat anyway.

My ones, printed on photopaper, laminated and stuck on with double sided tape, look pretty good when new. The way I park on my drive the N/S pair last a lot longer than the O/S pair that face south and fade in the sun almost as fast as Calypso Red paint.

I'd like to see them, can you bring them to the Bird in Hand on 21st March? Are they for SE 15" or S2 16" wheels?
I'm running on 17" BBS rims with 56mm diam centre badges so neither S2, 49mm, or SE, 42mm badges, are suitable so the DIY route seemed the easy solution.

been looking at the cat on skates...pretty cool and got me thinking it would be good to have a tax disc style window sticker of this in my Elan. had a quick butchers around the net and can get a pro job done for around £1.50 a throw if print run 50-100, if get 250 its only another £20 total than the cost for 50-100.
Early days and can poss get a better deal elsewhere but would anyone be interested at all or is 50 a bit of a stretch and print run would need to be lower?? or has anyone already done this in which case please can I be pointed in the right direction.
Many Thanks, Paul

There were some stickers done a while back. I don't know know exactly what was on them, what size they were or whether there are any left.
I expect if anyone has them, it will be there's only on f in Geof Smith.

I would have some. Why not start a thread in the group buy section?

I've got about 60 of the original ones. These have adhesive on the back, so have to be stuck on the outside of the windscreen. Also as we all found out, after a year or 2 they faded badly from UV.

eta/ they're fine for sticking on toolboxes, record folders etc
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Way back in Feb-16 GINIW made his cat-on-skates SVG available here: http://www.mirari.fr/mej7.svg

I have just been to that URL, and while I can see the Inkscape drawing, there is no way to download the SVG – all that I can do is a screen capture, but I want a high quality version so that I can also use Inkscape to work with the image.

I tried to send a PM to GINIW but I got NO LONGER A MEMBER or some such message. Going to: http://www.mirari.fr drew a blank too.

Where can I download the SVG file?

Many thanks
