Interest in bonnet liners - possible Group Buy

This is to gauge interest only - no commitment to buy

I have been looking at bonnet liners (hood liners for our colonial friends ) and have made contact with a supplier in the US.

Elanlover has one of these fitted and you can read his opinion here.

The supplier has offered us the 1/2" liner (in any colour you like as long as it is grey) together with a logo in a colour of your choice (red, white, yellow, blue or gold). As long as we order a minimum of 10 sets in one go, they will offer us a collective price of $73 each. Their retail price for this is $104 plus delivery.

I'm afraid that the delivery to the UK is quite steep ($105 for 10 sets), but sharing that cost amongst us means we can save quite a bit. As always, we may or may not get stung for VAT and import duty which will add (I believe) 24.5%.

If you purchased this yourself as a one off, it would cost you a total of £142 if stung for the VAT/duty and £114 if not.

Doing all the maths (and you are welcome to check my workings) and given that exchange rates fluctuate means that the cost will be ~£75 if we get 10 names. There is a tiny bit of 'padding' in that number, but given that the exchange rate advertised is never what you actually get, it is going to be pretty close.

This is a UK only offer, I'm afraid and (in the interests of full disclosure) if I take delivery of the order (and it doesn't have to be me) then it will only be on a collect and/or onward delivery via the LEC network basis; I just don't have time to repackage and post 9+ sets and I don't want anyone moaning at me that it didn't arrive yesterday. If someone else wants to volunteer to take delivery and then send them out then that would be great but the UK delivery cost is not included in anything detailed above.

I am sure if there were 10 US/Canada interested parties, then the supplier would extend the same pricing and delivery will be a darn sight cheaper You will however have to organise your own list!

Right; having said all that, if there are 10 interested UK parties, then we can go ahead and I will turn this into a 'commit to buy' thread, but if not, we can knock it on the head.

My original liner is scuffed/melted in a couple of places, notably above the breather oil separator thingy. The question is, is it damaged there owing to the fact it has come un-glued from the inside of the bonnet and is hanging down or will any new liner suffer this same fate?

I bought one of these liners 4 years ago (with the logo) and apart from a slight two inch bubble in one part of it it has stayed looking perfect and nothing has lifted or discoloured. Yeah, count me in at this moment, Ive been considering this for a few years but, for me anyway, it seems a big job. Remove the old liner, clean up the old glue, repair and inner bonnet damage, repair old paint, attach new liner. Seems a lot of effort. Nevertheless

Sorry, only just seen this. I do need one, only problem is the easiest part of the transportation from Solihull to the south coast ?

I've just looked at mine and it is melting above the turbo! My car isn't chipped/MBCd/FCDd or similar and I have a Stiffy which is heat-wrapped all the way up to the turbo. Anyway, will this new one be any more heat-resistant than the old foam?

Ok definitely count me in then as my parents live in Orpington and my dad could pick it up from somebody or you might even drive past Orpington on your way to Brands. So YES I will have one please !!

To the person who mentioned about it melting above the turbo this is a different piece I think ? There is the main piece and then there is a separate piece only about 10 inches deep and 2-3 feet wide ? Tried to order it from SJ Sportscars as they list it but said they had to order it from Lotus which took a few days. To be honest you could just buy a piece from somewhere and cut it to shape, thats what I was going to do !

Mine is the main piece, melting just above the gap between the turbo and the engine, right at the front of the foam. I'm considering something like Dynamat, the heat stuff not the Boy Racer speaker stuff!
