Have a look at the bidding patterns Jamie. 20 bids in the 1st hour then nothing. WTF ?

Quite a few of them with lots of retracted bids in the last 6 months ie r***y (532) with a massive 29

Admittedly, the car looks great and it is a very good advert with excellent photos .... Lovely paintwork and presented very well....

But, yet again, I have to question the dubiety of EBay bidding

Unfortunately a lot of traders on ebay do resort to these sorts of practices so it pays to be suspicious but of course this may well be a genuine situation.

I've just got a few bits off him and seemed a really nice bloke ...

I went to have a look at the yellow one he sold last year. Wouldn't take me for a test drive until I'd bought it so I didn't bother . Accused me of being a time waster later on here!

The blue one indeed looks in nice condition. There is slight mileage discrepancy on the MOT History around 2009 probably a Typo. Last Mot was at the end of March 2016, before that the previous MOT expired in May 2015, so I guess the present owner has not had it long and has restored/ recommissioned it recently and then put it on the market.
Not much of a surprise as he is registered as a business on ebay but its been in his personal collection so must be well cared for!.

Still needs a new cambelt through as this was last changed 10 years ago although the car only has done 10k or so miles since. Reading between the lines I suspect that the replacement Hood is an secondhand item off one the cars he has broken recently rather than new.

NFC !
The salesman told me he might have to take it off eBay then it turns up cheaper elsewhere

I wonder what eBay will make of it

If I remember correctly the original ebay ad said £100 deposit, cash balance on collection. So he could have sold it for anything on ebay, but had a private deal going with a fellow local dealer and just taken the balance up to an agreed figure below the ebay price. ebay won't know or care so long as they get their commission on the "sale" value.

Looking at the new ad on autotrader and the new seller's website I would say he is a slightly more up-market dealer, slightly better quality cars/brands. And probably knows what he has. He's even "RAC Approved" so he must be good

But 2 previous owners? According the old ebay ad it had had 2 women owners(IIRC), but the previous dealer told me it was "his personal car" for 3 years. :?: :?: :?:

One picture shows the dash board and the engine is obviously running: all dials look to be reading correctly at tickover. His "a little TLC" means to me at the very least: 4 new tyres, new door-window rubber seals, but more importantly a check/fix on the outriggers/cills given the swimming pool I found in the footwells.

But at £6995 he may sell for £6500, which may be a good price with above provisos. (Am I allowed to talk pricing??)

the car stayed on ebay until the auction closed, i dont for a minute believe the new "owner" paid more than what he is now advertising it for so i reckon a deal was done and not at the auction close price.
I dont think this is legal, and will ask Ebay to investigate.
Bottom line, some people now think the car is worth more than what it was bought for and thats misleading (especially to prospective purchasers like me)

apollo996 wrote:Sorry but I don't normally reply to posts but that simply isn't true. You never even made me an offer for the car. I said I would take you out in the car providing we could agree a ballpark price beforehand. At this point I would of taken you out in the car to show there were no issues and we could of moved forward with the deal. I don't take anybody and everybody out in a car I'm selling as its often a waste of time. My experience is a genuinely interested buyer will make an offer prior to a test drive. If acceptable, the test drive comes next. Sorry my car my rules. What would be the point? We spent 30 minutes driving around and it turns out the deal was never going to happen anyway as I wanted lets say £6000 and you were only prepared to offer £3000. I sold a lovely Porsche I owned from almost new a few years ago. Spent hours with one guy and had a full 1hr test drive and even let him drive. At the end, he never even made me an offer as he said there were a few stone chips on the front bumper. The test drive was a complete waste of time as he never intended to buy the car no matter what the condition. He was just a time waster and wanted a drive/be driven in a nice car. Lesson learnt for me.

If I was looking for a new car, or recommending one to someone on LEC, I would suggest having a look at your blue one.

But, unfortunately, not with an attitude like that  Not only is it unhelpful to a prospective buyer but it also sends bad vibes through your message

As a recent seller of an M100 (on LEC rather than EBay) I believe in going the extra mile to ensure that the buyer is completely satisfied with the transaction and purchase of his/her car.

I wish you success with this sale of your car Apollo as it looks lovely, but I think you need a shake up on customer service and satisfaction

All, if anybody wants to come and see the car they are more than welcome. I will even take you out for a drive. That way you can make your own minds up. I didn't put the link to the car for sale on here by the way. I know from breaking a few of these cars over the years I'm not very popular with a few people on this forum. I have the receipt for the replacement hood in the paperwork with the car by the way. For those who aren't aware yes I do sell Elan parts. I don't sell complete cars except on a very few rare occasions. This car is registered in my name. I'm selling it as I also own a Westfield, Porsche 944, Peugeot 309 Goodwood, 205 GTI 1.9 & a Mk2 Golf GTI and space is limited. Thank you

It was and it did. Unless of course it didn't actually reach its reserve last year and is now readvertised ??

Its amazing considering that faulty air con can apparently always be repaired by a simple and cheap regas, vendors dont bother to do this prior to sale. :-D

i agree , for a car that is in tip top condition not spending £30 seems daft when selling it ...
of course if you don't really use it then fair enough but with SOME cars i think if you cant be bothered to do that what else do you skimp on ..

This does look like a beaut .
hope it finds its way on here soon .

Thats a difficult question to answer. Think I would put a call out to Paul Matty who last serviced it; they should remember the car with such low mileage. Personally I don't think it will reach his reserve.

Mr Apollo, not wanting to tell you how to run your business, but.... if you let people test your cars first, then they should sell themselves. Because you have had a few time wasters, you cannot judge everyone like that, you should invest your time with them, after all they have gone out of there way to come and see it. Not all people are experts on these cars, all the best Andy

Hi all,

This is my car and it's a reluctant sale as it really is different to the other cars I'm running, but space and money are the constraints here. With the work that's been done, the car is in good shape and if anyone would like to come and see it with a view to buying, please get in touch

Thanks, by the way, to those I've met through the forum who have offered help on various technical matters in the past 18mths

cheers,

Jim
